Default how would you react to this situation? (gun involved)

so it Tuesday, around 3 PM, and I stop by a Shell gas station close to home to fill up. Car reader at the pump was not working so i have to go inside.
no problem. ask the lady to fill it up, leave my card and go out. When I'm done, I went back in, and I notice 3 guys, with some cocky attitude that I didn't notice before, one was leaning against the counter like if they were regulars... the thing that got me alert was that the guy on the middle had a fanny pack on his hands. It seems like they were playing with it or something.
So I go to pay, but for some reason that I can't explain kept an eye on the guys, an all the sudden the middle guy clumsy as an idiot!!! drop a glock from the fanny pack to the floor!!!! seemed like a 17, definitely was a Glock, but I couldn't say for sure the model.
From this moment on everything seemed to be going at the same time..

The guy picked it up, and at the same time I was thinking to "check" for my gun, the lady on the counter saw my look and said to the other lady...
lady one: "you see what happened??"
lady two: "no."
lady one: "he dropped his gun, if it wouldn't have the safety, would have gone off" or something to that matter.

At that moment I breathe a little bit easier because I assumed that they knew him, so either was her boyfriend, or the station owner or an off duty LEO. I left looking at the guys and nodding my head thinking what an idiot but I was thinking about this all the way back to my truck, but didn't know what to do, report it? call the guy off?, make a smart a$$ comment to the guy like "hey a$$hole! do you know the meaning of concealed???".

It was obvious that they were showing off, but it got me wondering... on these fragile political moment for gun owners, a stupid attitude like that followed by an accident could easily be used by the MSM as a tool to make a big deal against citizens owned guns and take our guns away from us.
What would you have done??? question for the LEO's, what would be the appropriate manner for a regular Joe to act on this situation???

PS: this is not meant to be political at all so lets try to keep it focused on the matter at hand that is not about obama, nor democrats but how would you react in my situation.

Should have called the cops. I don't know where you are, but judging by his lack of respect for and carelessness with regard to the handling of the firearm, I would venture to say he does not have a permit for it.

Call the police and inform the owner not the manager of that station As Just said he has no clue of firearm safety Which means he had never had a course Those are the people that get you more restrictions on your legal firearm and right to carry it

I probably would have been pulled around the corner & called the law. The guy was definitely too stupid to own a gun but even with that aside, it's always possible that he could have told the employees to play it cool until "that guy" (you) left or they'd get shot.
At least with the law involved, if there's a shooting it's not the guy shooting you for screwing up his robbery or you shooting him when it never was a robbery.

I would have called from around the corner keeping an eye on the place. Bad gun owners are making it worse for everyone.

I missed having a bad guy caught because I was in a rush and left it up to my own towns dispatcher to relay the info to the town I was in. (next one over) They (the other town) sent the cops to the wrong gas station that was being broken into. The crack head got away.

You do not show your location but not all states require permits for open carry or concealed carry

Unfortunately idiots like that will get themselves or someone else injured or killed and then the left will have another example of why we should be deprived of our rights.

That kind of negligent handling of a fire-arm probably constitutes disturbing the peace (creating a reasonable state of fear). You would be within your rights to file a complaint if you feel strongly enough that Fanny-Packer needs to learn a lesson.

Good luck!

I think since only you were there and if your first reaction was to just drop the whole thing and leave - I think you did the best thing.

You are obviously confident around firearms and not alarmist (either pro or anti gun). From that I would have to assume your first instinct is correct. Only you could sense the feeling in the store and apparnetly it didnt appear to be more than an idiot with a glock.
Calling the cops seems like a good idea in hindsight (or from 1000 miles away on aboating forum..) but at the time go with your gut...

Call the police. Concealed weapons are usually illegal. Brandishing a weapon is illegal. (AKA dropping it in public)

Let these losers explain it to the sherrif/judge.

If you had one ounce of respect from me I might have laughed. You don't have that luxury.

It's OK to laugh....you just have to make it clear that you're laughing AT him, and not WITH him.

I think you handled it well for the situation. It was probably just a case of very poor judgement on the gun owners behalf.

In my opinion, anyone who goes around mishandling a weapon or showing it off to all his friends out in public should not be allowed to carry a weapon in the first place. Careless handling leads to accidents.

I would however, send an e-mail to the store owner, parent company or corporation that owns the place and let them know that their employees are hanging around with their friends carelessly "playing" with guns. Even though the gun did not go off, imagine if the next person in line was the sweet little old lady with the bad heart who stopped for gas.

SIMPLE QUESTION.

DO YOU OWN ANY GUNS?

No dodge questions or behind the scene remarks. Pure and simple. Please answer the question directly. If you do, what are they? Again, same rules apply, don't be shy.
