Default More frustrating govt stupidity

Not a fan of BOATING magazine but I have to recommend you pick up a copy of the March edition and read an article entitled "Doing the Havana Hustle". I can't remember reading anything in recent memory more frustrating. Cuban juries and prosecutors who will not prosecute Cuban criminals(in this case, boat thieves). Illegal Cuban immigrants who step foot on American soil without being caught are then rewarded with $8,000 - $10,000 cash given to them by the American government. Coincidently, that is approximately the same amount they have to pay to the criminals that got them here.

How can this happen? Miami is no longer an American city. Criminals of Cuban descent who are not prosecuted by the Cuban authorities seemingly for the simple reason that they are countrymen. This is why un-controlled immigration is destroying this country. Not because they shouldn't be here(my grandfather was French) but because they refuse to become "Americans". They refuse to abide by the law.

How in the hell did a law get passed that gives Cuban immigrants $8K - $10K in cash just for being lucky enough not to get caught by our Navy, Coast Guard and local authorities?

I am thoroughly disgusted with the direction this country has taken.

Wouldn't this new bill, to remove travel restrictions to Cuba, make matters worse? Everyone could get into the smuggling business.

I'm going to further my South Florida tan and learn Spanish and stand on the beach and claim I just arrived. I could use an extra 10K.

Apparently, your government thinks so, too:

Making his first appearance before the panel as President Obama's top intelligence adviser, Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair said the most immediate fallout from the worldwide economic decline for the United States will be "allies and friends not being able to fully meet their defense and humanitarian obligations." He also saw the prospect of possible refugee flows from the Caribbean to the United States, and a questioning of American economic and financial leadership in the world.

I've heard this assertion that the govenment pays cuban migrants some sum of money on arrival, but can anyone confirm it? It is not in the Cuban Adjustment Act (the "wet-foot, dry-foot" policy) or anywhere else that I can find. Urban legend?

Not sure where it is in writing but it is a fact! SW Florida has become the new dumping ground...

They get dumped on Sanibel Island and are knocking on my door within a week looking for work. They all have cars within a week.

More to make you sick: http://havanajournal.com/cuban_ameri...nied_benefits/

I can't verify the cash payments. I saw that info in the article I referenced in BOATING magazine.

It's a shame we are going to have to live with our last admistration for years and maybe decades to come. What's even worse, is that I really don't believe we have learned anything from it. We keep electing the same stupid people that pass those same stupid laws. There's got to be a lot of money involved some place.

Since no one has supplied documentation I guess we can assume this is an Urban Legend - I Hope! I find it hard to believe we are paying to get more illegals.

I just recieved my copy of Boating magazine for March. The article reads like a bad dream. I have heard all the claims before.

I have no doubt its true because I would imagine the magazine has to be able to back up what they publish. If not they have to print a retraction.
