Default Anyone ever been to Ambergris Caye, Belize?

Thinking about going there for my honeymoon.

How did you get there? Where did you stay? Did you enjoy it?

From Goldson, you have a couple of options, Tropic Air, or Maya Island air. If you're going to fly over from international, spend the 20$ BZ on a cab to Belize City Municipal airport and save about half on the air fare. They wack the gringo's when and where they can. You can take the Thunderbolt (boat) over, but if it rains, 'yer screwed (and soaked). The caye is nice, and really laid back. You can spend as much or not a whole lot there on lodging... All in what you want. I've had a blast every time I've been there, and can't wait to go back!

just got back a few months ago from my buddy's wedding there. It was my second trip there (first a decade ago), and had a great time. Stayed at Victoria House, and while its not cheap, its a truly great spot now that they have several pools there. Victoria House is one of my favorite resorts in the carribbean as a place to just relax, and really not too expensive on a relative basis (I think we paid like $400/nt for a beach front room with our own private pool...its less for others that are a whole extra 40 feet from the water). Food and service is top-notch.

In my experience its a safe island, and while still kind of a sleepy town, there's some stuff to do other than lying on beach or at pool. Good bone fishing, snorkling, and scuba. The one thing to be aware of however is that ambergris doesnt have long beautiful beaches like they have further north up by Cancun/Playa Del Carmen/Mayan Riveria area. Many of the ambergris hotels have actual bulkheads between the beach and the water, so you wont be really swimming in the ocean in most cases.

I think you'll have to go new orleans to houston to Belize city (continental), and then a puddle jumper (maya air?) over to Abergris. the direct flight IAH to BZE was quick (2 hours?), and the puddle jumper maybe 15 min.

if you want more info on it you can PM me.
