Default Atlantis, Bahamas

Anybody been there? Is it worth going to, or just one big tourist ripoff??
Trying to decide between the Cable beach area, Nassau or Atlantis on Paradise Island.
Any feedback would be appreciated

IMO it is worth it. It is expensive, but we were 100% satisfied w/ the service and accomodations. We are now waiting until our son is a least 3 and going back w/ him.

Stayed at Atlantis about 8 yrs ago, been to Nassau on about 12 cruises. Atlantis is VERY expensive for everything (gambling tables have minimums of like 15 to 20 bucks, buffets are like 40 to 50 bucks, etc.). I liked Atlantis and it is a sight to see and I go back to gamble but we usually are only there a few hours (usually on a cruise stop). The one thing I saw at Atlantis more than anywhere else by the staff was an attitude from most of the game dealers and some of the hotel staff. Cable Beach is nice but a little far from downtown. Beaches Beaches (the all inclusive) by cable beach was fair but still pretty run down when I was there a 1.5 ago

If you are bringing kids it is probably the best resort for vacationing. There is so much to do for the kids and they love it! It is expensive but well worth it. Walking around the marina could be a vacation in itself.

Thanks for the responses.
I am thinking to stay at the Sheraton Cable Beach and visit the Atlantis for a day or two and use the savings (about $150-$200 a day) for dive trips and rent a boat to go around the other islands.
I've heard pro and con about Atlantis, some opinions saying it's a sight to behold, others could not stand the tourist type, Disney atmosphere and crowds...
I will be bringing our 17 year old with us. (he likes diving)..

Ditto on everything said about Atlantis. I didn't think it was anything like a Disney crowd....there were very few children when I went back in 2000.

If You stay at the Comfort Inn next door to the Atlantis you are allowed to use the Atlantis facilities.

If the Atlantis is very busy during a holiday week, you might not get into the water park if you are not staying at Atlantis or the hotel next door.

We were staying at Hurricane Hole and thought we could pay to use the water park, no can do.

Maybe now that the economy is in the tank they will take you if you aren't staying at the place.

I'd call first.
