Default Have Traveled or Will Travel

Has anyone recently done any traveling, for work or pleasure. With the current state of the economy does one find the roads, bus, rail, airplanes less used these days? Would you say there is less people on the move?

I have noticed very little difference. Planes are still maxing out - mostly I believe because there have been less of them in the air for the past few years due to mothballing.

I think the first thing we would see is comprtitive pricing - and that definately isn't happening.

Flights still seem still pretty full. However, like Menz said they have cut back on routes. My colleague was in Europe last week and he made the comment that the airports were pretty empty where he was. I still can't figure how they price flights. A few months ago I was purchasing a business class ticket from WDC to Beijing. United wanted 18,000 for the darn ticket. Delta was something like 8,000. Slightly different routes but not a big difference. I ended up buying a coach class ticket and upgrading. There were a few empty seats in business. Now that I think about it my flight back from Frankfort in December had about 10 seats open in business. So, perhaps the international travel has cut back. I don't see it domestically though.

Over the last few years ridership has slightly decresed but airlines have reduced number of flights so impact on passengers is about the same - packed flights. Non peak flights sometimes give you some breathing room. One important thing to consider is the airport(s) you are flying out of, security can be 10 minutes to over an hour. Again peak vs. off peak will affect these times.

Last week it was reported domestic flight were running 65% occupancy which is way below break even occupancy. Many carriers are dropping routes and cutting the number of flights. The problem some are having they bought fuel options that are above market price and many are parking aircraft but still have to make lease payments. It appears it an industry that can not get a break.

You pay full price for businness class.

You could charter a jet for cheaper.

WOW, upgrades only for me, but if you have the scratch. Let me know when the prices drop. I need to get 5 tickets to Europe. Right now 7899.00 for 5.

What I noticed, too, for international travel. I've been looking for changes, what I see is more people in 1st class than before, and they don't look like 'normal' 1st class travelers. I'm thinking people are cashing in air miles to take a ride while they can, or upping to 1st class because econo and business are sold out, using air miles to upgrade.

I travel the east coast on a regular basis. I cannot tell any difference other than fewer flights which mean packed planes and pissed off passengers and crew.
