Default Your "User Name"

Does it have a story behind it as to how you came up with it? Some are simple to figure out, some may be your name or your boat name. Some cannot be pronounced (at least I can't pronounce some) or are not even names.

Some of us are old enough to have had a CB back in the 70's, and you had a Handle back then.

For those who are willing to reveal, where did your User name come from?

I'll start, I started on this forum and a few others, shortly after I purchased my bay boat. Most BB owners know the Triton LTS, (Light Tackle Series), therefore I simply chose 240 LTS. I thought it would relate to the other BB owners.
It is the boat I will keep for a while. It could be my last one.

Doughnut-

When I was a kid and fishing on the Sportboats (cattle boats) you would depart in the morning, fish al day, with about 35 people. The regualrs (me) had a nickname for the first timers, tourists etc. They were the ones with the donuts and coffee (usually a bad combo if you know what I mean) but, they usually had a brand new rod and reel. Thus, they were "one step above a rent rod" (one who rents tackle from the landing to fish with for the day) We called them "donuts" which I guess you would interchange with "greenhorn" or "newbie" "doughnut" is a play on that and my car business (dough as in money) history. Now that I wrote that, its kind of a lame handle actually.

Eyeball - because my name, Joe, was already taken (probably by someone by the real name of Eyeball). I tried about a billion other names, all were already taken. So I got pissed and stuck 'eyeball' in there just to see if the damn thing was even working. It was, I'm 'eyeball'.

OK there is a story behind mine.

When I first signed up for an internet account (on AOL way back in 1992, God I'm old!) you were advised to never ever put your real name, or anything even remotely like it, into this new internet thingy. The advice was to make your screenname anonymous.

I was reading an excellent book at that time called "C". This was a biography written by Anthony Cave Brown about Winston Churchill's spymaster and head of MI6 during WWII - Sir Stewart Graham Menzies. So I thought, what a better way to protect my privacy than using the name of the head of the British secret service!

I have been Menzies everywhere I have registered since then when the name wasn't already taken. Going on 17 years.

Well, mine is pretty lame and probably falls into "How do you pronounce it" category. Well, it is pronounced as "merciless" which has two meanings in my case. I am in software sales (BI and Spook stuff) and the job is "Thankless" (except for the pay when you get it right) and requires you to be somewhat ruthless. Thus the reason it is spelled wrong in French "Merci "is proper while I added the Spanish twist MerSi - les; without thanks. Also serves the purpose of being merciless.

Look, I had a few drinks in me ;? Good news is that it is not common.

Way back when (15 years?) my 7 year old was heavy into computers and the internet. He wanted to name the new boat internet badly. Change a couple of letters and you get InTheNet. Which is where the fish go!

tr is my initials and rooster came from when I was 6 and me and my brother thought it would be fun to take a bucket of tar, dip a mop in it and chase the chickens around. My brother would coral them into the pen and I would start plastering them with the tar. Mom and Dad was not really happy but grandad keep me from getting my neck wrung(cant say the same for the chickens). He thought it was pretty funny so rooster became my nickname.

Many, many moons ago during my college daze I was a whitewater rafting guide.

There was this kid that was on my boat multiple times that could not say "guide." He alway called me the "raftguy."

The other guides on our crew teased my endlessly about it - and it has stuck all these years.
