Default Goodbye my Friends

No, this isn't one of those posts where I am mad and going away. (Much to the chagrin of some I am sure)

We leave for Michigan tomorrow morning for Christmas. I just wanted to say my farewells in case they find our bodies in a snow bank after the Spring thaw. I have spent the weekend preparing. We have all the necessities like blankets, liquor, beer, a 1911 .45, flashlights, and even some food. It looks like we will be running into snow, ice, and temps in the teens. Even if the weather doesn't get us, between the holiday traffic and the kids my brain may just explode. (Reminder to self, take Xanax.)

Seriously, I want to wish everybody here (and I really mean everybody) a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, (and whatever else) and a Happy New year!

Shag- Have a good trip! The weather is certainly brutal up there with very cold temps and lots of snow. I think your heading in the wrong direction! Down here temps were about 78-80 with little breeze and 1-2' seas! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!

You'll be fine. You might want to bring an extra raincoat, though, just-in-case the weather gets really nasty up there. Stay safe and have fun!!

Bo, Merry Christmas in return. You make sure Laura has PLENTY of warm clothing, she's going to need it! I know I'm only a few hours from Mi. and right now it's 3 degrees outside with 30 - 40 mph winds straight out of the west......supposedly it's supposed to get colder. ....hey I love the winter.

One thing for sure is that most of the traffic will be going to Florida, we need more money from tourist so please keep them coming this way. Florida is already busy, traffic is thick.
Funny, we planed a two trips for Christmas, a cruise just before and a trip to Omaha, the cruise won out, thank god.
When in doubt drive slowly no matter what the other fools are doing and watch the bridges for Ice. Keep safe.

Well just got back from a wonderful trip. Azz deep in snow, single digit temps, and the in-laws. Good drive up until we hit the state line. I think the "Welcome to Michigan" sign had been wiped out by the freaking cars and trucks that had slid off the road. Either that or they were covered by the snow banks. Got to the luxury hotel where we were staying and had to get a running start to get over the hump the snow plows left when they plowed the roads. The owners, Rashi and Modi were really happy to see our credit card. The rooms had a "rustic" air about them. The extension cords stapled to the wall and the bath towels the size of a handkerchief were my two favorites. But, what do you expect for $48 plus, plus, plus? The room was also equipped with a really neat refrigerator. Down here we call it a balcony. It did keep the beer cold and the bags of ice didn't even need a cooler. BTW, this was the nicer of the two luxury hotels in town.

The trip home today was even more fun, or maybe adventurous would be the word. Stopped by to say goodbye to the in-laws and the first thing they said was, "Don't count on traveling turnpike because they are closed due to ice". Great news! So, instead of the Indianna and Ohio turnpikes, we decided to head straight south to Fort Wayne to get across the ice as quickly as we could and then work our way across Ohio. We found out right away that our plan had some flaws. First, there wasn't any "just getting across the ice". The first freaking 100 miles of our trip was ice. We made a lot of friends while we were walking around on the interstate stretching our legs. But, we did get out of it eventually and it immediately turned into rain. Ya know, the kind of rain that works the salt loose from the pavement and helps trucks cover your windshield constantly with the chit that just won't wipe off. Went thru two gallons of washer fluid.

Well, during the heaviest of the rain we hit construction in Dayton at rush hour. Now that's a fun time. Headed out of Dayton and was able to experience another wonder of nature. Fog. I don't mean just fog but FOG! My seat has a pucker in it that I'm not sure even a good leather shop can fix. We finally got out of the fog about the same time the sun went down as we rolled into West Virginia. More fun. There is nothing like the West Virginia turnpike on a dark night. Oh, I need to mention that West Virginia has FOG too. I have never been so happy to see the NC state line. 11 hours up. 14 frigging hours back.

Three good things came out of this trip. This is the first time all four of us have gone to see the in-laws together in several years. Second, it was great seeing the in-laws (at least most of them), and third, I think you will see a spike in Seagrams stock and Anheuser Bush stock when the market opens Monday.
