Default Hunting Question

Deer hunting - rattling:

Do you think it matters what size of rack one uses when rattling? Would a large 4 point rack be as good as a small 6, or would a normal size 10 or 12 point rack be best? What are your thoughts? What do you use and why?

We always use 6-8 point rattlers. I do not know if it really makes a difference but thats what we have always done.

I believe it's all in the technique.

I don't know why you're asking... Aren't you the guy who hunts with a bag of apples?

Have used both and never really noticed any difference, always ended up with a freezer full of venison.

And Garett if you wear a Cowboys jersey while hunting your odds of being successful are greatly improved

Rattle?

Heck I go out on the back porch and shoot'em out of the garden. Peas, corn and tomatoes are the best, bell peppers don't work so good.

Garret if you have snow just track them I don't use scent/rattle/grunt/I have been down wind and shot I have shot them across clearcuts and I have shot them in their beds at 5' If they are running the does they will be tired Sooner or later they are going to stop to get a look at what is dogging them When you understand the sign you will get the shot Easiest way to get a mature deer You can tell by the track that it's big It is the most exciting way to pursue them Every step you must be aware of or you will lose

Did anyone mention that rattling is only good when there is a high buck to doe ratio!
