1 U.S. dollar = 88.8 Japanese yen

18 months ago it was something like $1USD = 123 Japanese yen. That's a 27% drop in the value of the US dollar compared to the Japanese yen.

To reiterate what I said a few months ago, in the long haul, the Japanese yen, the Euro, and the Swiss franc.

The US dollar is going in the crapper. A government cannot "manufacture" the amount of currency that our Treasury just did and have any hope of maintaining that currencies value. My guess is that they just created a dinosaur. The $ will not survive this, at least not in its current form. Something else will be in place within a couple years. Look for the OPEC people to start demanding payment in something other than our good ole' greenback within a year. Try to physically buy any precious metals lately? Hmmmm. I wonder who's snapping that stuff up? We are screwed.

The Euro and Pound are doing much better. I started bying pounds for our trip next year; down from 2.03 to 1.53.

Francs for the long haul. Euros for the mid term haul. Yennies for the 12 month haul.

When I lived in Japan the exchange rate was 1USD = 320 yen. :o

When I was in Korea it was 360 to the dollar. The waun was the same rate, problem was we did not have any dollars only MPC.

I looked at the exchange rates yesterday and it did not look good. What really shocked me were the countries that were doing poorly compared to the dollar. Borrowing is bad enough but when you just start printing it is never good.

Anybody here ever use any alternative currency? We had some liberty dollars that were backed by precious metals but the government raided them a while back. Looks like uncle sam does not like competition from a sound money backed by something other than faith.
