Default Gator Bowl Hotel Recomendations

Can anyone make a hotel reservation in the Jacksonville area. Decided late to go to the game, and would like a decent hotel that isn't in the hood, don't mind it not being on top of the staduim, but don't want to fight off bums trying to get checked in.

The Omin and the Hyatt are not far from the Landing (a nice party place downtown) and both are about 10 blocks from Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (The gator bowl)... Let me know if you need anything else...

The Hampton is nice and will be cheaper but it is across the river over the Main St. bridge not far but a lot longer walk..

Good Luck with the MIL. Warning there is nothing cheap downtown and no shoneys.... It will be worth paying the extra to be downtown, the activities will center around the Landing on teh riverfront..Have fun.. I just hope I am not forced to work it like the Fl-Ga game...

Trey-

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on St. Simons Island when we went several years back. I can't remember what it cost, but it wasn't bad. The drive to Jacksonville was pretty easy from there.

St Marys, GA maybe? Right over the GA/FL line. There are a few Hamton Inn type hotels. Probably booked, but try.

You can always stay with my MIL in St Marys!

Yup, i remember that and i was there for NCSU vs Notre Dame. Great time!!! We stayed at the Embassy Suites. Riverfront was booked, but we didn't miss much there. The hotel was rocking that night with parties from fans of both teams. Slept maybe 2 hours. Took us about 20 mins to get to the stadium from there. Worth a shot. BTW - i've been told that there are no good tiddie bars in Jville. Either topless and no alcohol or alcohol and no ______.

Good to know that you have the tiddie bar scene perfected but who here asked about tiddie bars?

Brand new Holiday Inn Express near the beach, http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/...ilsearch&ias=y

Best Western on the Beach, pretty nice, not the normal Best Western, only a few years old, http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do

Normally would not recommend either of these brands but they are nicer. May also want to try the Marriott Courtyard at Mayo Clinic.

Gee, i dunno. Traveling to see a football game with a bunch of your friends and staying overnight. Yeah, i guess YOU wouldn't want to do that. Sorry.

Look at the Baymeadows area. Southside and safe. Right by I95. 15 minutes to the stadium approach (depends on stadium traffic from there!).

Lots of hotels. If you are staying after the game consider driving to San Marco, parking at the parking lot there and catching the monorail into downtown. Lot less hassle.

About 10 minutes from my house.

You will have no issues around there. Easy access to the stadium.

In the evening - take a stroll through San Marco, or go over to the St John's Town Centre, would suit the MIL/Missus.

If you want to go where the party is then that would be The Landing. As I say, drive to San MArco and park in the multi-story by the mono-rail station and take the little train into town. Driving and parking downtown is going to be a nightmare.

Also Jax Beach is about 20 minutes from there. Bars and a bit of nightlife there.

Dont leave anything in your vehicle to attract a thief. I just looked at where your hotel is, you should be fine. If you were closer to US 1 that would be different. I doubt you will have any problems but here in Jax we get quite a bit of crime centered around motels. The safest place to enjoy yourself will be the Landing as there is always a large police presence in and around that place.. Have fun

thanks everyone for your help. Looks like it should be a good, though short trip. Hopefully the MIL will have a room at least a few doors down the hall.

Oh, and a win would be nice.......we do have a nice history playing Nebraska in FL.
