Default I guess I gotta start listening to my kids...

My daughter is a Freshman in High School. All year she's
been complaining about her Science Teacher.."He's wierd...
He's Stupid...He's a Jerk"....yadda, yadda, yadda. Typical
teenage complaining about a 50 year old teacher in a class
she could not possibly care less about. Or so I thought...

Last Friday night, he crosses over onto the wrong side of the
road and has a head on with an off duty reserve police officer.
No serious injuries. He gets cited for, among other things, driving
with a suspended license, lane violation, etc. And the icing on the
cake......possession of Crystal Meth.

Considering this is the Peoples Republic of M-asshole-achusettes, I'm
wondering if he was hired as part of the districts all inclusive diversity
program. I mean, what's a quality education without having a drug
addict as a teacher?

At least he didn't show up for class today.

The teachers Union will herald him as a hero of sorts. He'll go to rehab and come back to school in his old position.

The key to your post is listening to your kids. I have a high school sophmore, and she was complaining about an English teacher last year. My daughter is a really good student and never gets in trouble of any kind. I'm not aware of any issues like you encountered, but the teacher was fired about a month later. If you trust your child, you need to listen. As bad as it seems, it could have been a lot worse if kids were somehow injured.

I really doubt the guy will be back.

You've never dealt with a teachers' union, have you? These assholes will be standing up for that piece of shit (especially in the people's republic of massholachusetts) when they should be repudiating him/it. As with all unions, they promote deviants and mediocracy. Phukking scumbags...

Hey guys,

As a teacher and part of the MA Teachers Union, there is no way in hell this guy keeps his job. Teachers take a lot of crap - and some are very deserving of that. We're not all bad, though. The same can be said for the rest of us in the MTA. What was said earlier? Definitely listen to your kids. If the vibe is there there may be something to it.

Cheers,

Charlie

We don't have unions here in North Carolina, I guess that's why our pay is crap. . .

And for the record, down here, the guy would be canned instantly.

In high school I went from solid mid 90's in my sciences to mid 30's in one year because of a particular teacher. Right from the get-go I Knew there was a SERIOUS problem! The head of the Guidance Dept (my hockey coach) and the Principals Office could NOT change around my classes to remove me from that jerkoff's classes. I paid the ultimate price. In grade nine I had 98%. From 96% in grade ten Chemistry to 34% in grade eleven.....from 94% in Physics to 36%. The kicker was, I wanted to take summer school to make up those two classes, but he was the teacher so I figured it was a Total waste of my efforts and time.

So WHAT DO YOU DO in a case like mine or your daughter's? Do you remove them from the school and place them in another school? What do you do when a teacher just doesn't like one of their students? I mean I was sited for sh!t when I wasn't even at school! Every time I went to the Guidance Dept or the Principals Office the problem in my classes only got worse.

Funny how life and fiction are so often parallel. There was a show on TV (I think last summer) about a high school science teacher who set up a meth lab. Not exactly the same but close. I wonder if this guy was cooking up his own brew. From what I understand, it's not that hard.

Dirtball needs to lose his job and cert. at the very least.

They will probably negotiate an early retirement if he has achieved "Professional Status" by working 3 years in the district. If he doesn't have status they will negotiate partial payment of his salary for the rest of -this- year and not re-new him for the next year.

The district can also suspend him without pay pending resolution and that will be a fight with the union and court but they can get around it by putting his salary in escrow and saying he will be paid if found not guilty. Since it's a criminal case his lawyer will be reluctant for him to be deposed for the civil trial so it will be postponed until the criminal action is resolved.

If any drugs or related evidence is found in his work space he will likely be terminated immediately and the district will probably take their chances in court if he tries to fight that. Many teachers' contracts have 'moral turpitude' clauses which would be applicable here.
