Default Ethernet Cable Question

I currently have a Linksys Cable Modem/router and run two computers wirelessly off it. The Modem/router is one unit (WCG200 for those familiar with linksys products) and the thing craps out every now and then...more now if I am watching movies on HULU or similar. It is getting annoying but generally works ok with two computers and no movies. My gf uses the laptop, I use the desktop and if we are both using the computers it may crap out once or twice over 4 hours. By crapping out I mean it restarts itself.

Eventually I may upgrade to Wireless-N but for right now I don't feel like spending the money on the router and a new modem. I am looking for a cheap fix, I only sit about 10 feet away from the router. I want to buy an ethernet cable to run straigh from the router/modem to my desktop.

Will this cable work: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-A3L791-...8350627&sr=8-3

I know I need an ethernet cable but this says Molded patch cable, is it the same thing? Again just looking for a cheap fix being that I only watch videos once in a while. By the way, I have comcast high speed internet. I generally am pretty good with this, but am not familiar with a patch cable.

Thanks!

yes that cable will work. As far as the modem "rebooting" or restarting. it may be as easy as upgrading the firmware or changing your ip lease time to a greater value. The routers admin page is located by going to the web address, 192.168.0.1 and entering the user name and password. The ip address may be different, you can check the users manual if that is not correct. You may also be able to reserve an ip address for each pc so it never expires. This will be done from the web based utility paged accessed by go to the 192.168.0.1 address.

Thanks guys. I thought it was the same cable but as I was not familiar with that name, thought I'd post.

King: I am going to look into what you suggested. The tech guy i work with also suggested to check out the firmware. I need to take a look and see if I can fix it. Wireless N is still a bit much considering I would need to upgrade the wireless card on the laptop.

Wireless N is still in Draft and I would go with a multi G system. You may also want to change your channel to something other than 6 as most people stay on that channel as it is the default channel.

Here is the link to your routers tech page that has the firmware. make sure you are wired and not wirelessly connected when you flash the router with the firmware.

Great! Thanks King. I believe last time I changed the password, I did change the channel. I will check again though. I appreciate your assistance.
