Default Anglers Edge, good sponsor

I've got my boat with him right now, great deal, he even checks in now and then to see if we want to make any changes on the ads.

Nice guy too.

Funny thing about that. you always here the politically correct stuff like "as long as its healthy", but a lot of guys secretly hope for a little fishing buddy.

I'm 46, never had kids, never thought I'd be good at it. Then I stumble into a life changing situation where I'm taking care of a little 3 yr. old girl that lost her dad and mom. I take her on weekends, take her on the boat, take her everywhere.

I wouldn't trade that little girl for a boy any day. I guess you never know do ya.

Good Luck Bob

Hey Mike, WOW that is a great story. Thats a great thing you are doing. Kids are the best thing in life. I was unsure with the first one until he was about 1 minute old. I also was unsure if I would be good at being a dad. A friend once said to me that you have no idea what love is until you have your first child. He said sure, you love your wife, you love your mom and dad, etc. But you will truely not know what love is until you have your first child. He came to the hospital when my first little guy was born and nudged me saying "So was I right" He was. That statement has never left my mind. I don't care boy or girl either. Healthy is #1. Would be nice to have a little girl. Lots of my friends say the father daughter bond is really nice. My son is definetely mommas boy.

I'll let you guys know when we get back!

Mike: Great story and obviously you are a great man.You are right... before having my daughter and some time after that , I preached that "as long as its healthy" and I really believed it.Then I gotmyself a daughter and at the beginning nothing changed because she was really dependant on mommy. but now she is 2 YO and she is my best friend... she boat with us since sheis 2 weeks, and she spend a lot of time with me and mom fixing the boat. She likes to hand me stuff, tools, wrenches, pliers, screws, bolts, nuts, wires, etc...no matter if I need it or not...LOL. She just wants to be there with her daddy... Now that I have my "daddy's girl" already, I would probably prefer a boy, but like anglersedgemarine said: healthy = #1

anglersedgemarine: your friend is really a wise man. My baby girl and her mama just came back from abroad today. they were out of the country only for 10 days.

I could probably have gone another 20 days without the wife before missing her....(hope she does not read this!!!!),but not having my daughter was killing me from day 1.

Yeah, its a sad and happy story, Her daddy was my wifes brother, he died at 41 when she was 1. Mom is still around, but lost custody. Total piece of shit. Her main caregivers are her other aunt and uncle. We play as much of a roll as my business permits. She means everything to me. Sometimes I need to get angry with her and punish her and the next day I can't stand myself.

The other day I had to confiscate her jump rope and throw it away. I cried.

You know, I gotta stop using my real name on these sites. Some people think I'm a tough guy!!!

There is no being a tough guy when it comes to kids!

This summer my son was really into me for a stretch. It took everything I had to leave the house in the morning. Then I would go away to fish for a couple days and my wife would tell me he asked for me non stop. Enough to make you wanna go home. I still have a voicemail saved on my phone from a year ago of my son saying "I love daddy" Can bring myself to delete it.

BTW. Just got back from the ultra sound......It's a GIRL!!!

That will give us one of each. Exactly what we wanted. Truely feeling blessed right now!

Tight lines, Bob

Congratulations ! I read above that the father daughter bond is very special. I can vouch for that 100%. I was daddy's little girl from the moment I was born until the day he passed away. Daddy taught me how to swing a golf club, how to play paddleball (you should have been there the day the "old man" and the "little girl" beat two 20 year old jocks ! LOL), and how to fish ! My fishing memories are the most special - nobody else was really interested - it was just me and daddy sitting side by side not making a sound but speaking volumes to each other.

Mike-- Great thing you are doing. If it weren't for you and the uncle and aunt, she may be in foster homes. Now you can have fun buying her tons of xmas gifts!

Thanks to all. We are very excited. The honey do list just got much longer. As we were driving home my wife was saying "You need to do this, you need to do that" the whole way. Better get some fishing in quick! I think we are going to name her Annabelle. Another good southern name. My sons name is Colton.

So glad to hear about the daddy's girl stuff. Everytime I saw that take me fishing commercial and that little girl says "because my wedding will be sooner than you think" I would get choked up. I hope my little girl stays that close to me. Your story and Mikes story make this one of the best threads I have seen here in a long time. LIFE IS GOOD!!

Bob, Congrats....Your gonna love it...Except those days you scratch your head and say to yourself "I can't take another woman in my house"...They all act alike, even at 3! That feeling will pass as fast as it comes..

Chris, The shopping never ends! Its mainly my fault. When the job gets stressfull, instead of having a drink, I now hit the mall by myself and buy about $150 worth of little girls clothes. I love shopping for clothes for her.

Andy; Thanks, I appreciate it. Don't misunderstand. I'm no hero. I am having more fun than her! Kinda started by "helping out" and just got completely out of hand

Nothing kills me more than having to punish her the day she goes back to her other aunt. I spend all week dwelling on it. By Friday, I'm telling her I'm sorry ;? and she doesn't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Thanks again Mike. The thing I fear most is the teenage years.

My son is three now. I think on saturday he was in "time out" about 25 times. They both test the limits at that age. They should call it the terrible three's instead of terrible two's . Seems like three is when it happens.

My wifes real father was not much a part of her life. He was more concerned with himself. Anyone can have a child but it takes a man to be a father! Her stepfather (my best friend) is really her father. When it came to her wedding day he was the one that walked her down the isle. Keep that in mind I bet that will be you!

As far as the shopping goes I tell my wife to get what ever she wants. What else is there in life better to spend your money on? You can't take it with you!

I got two fishing buddies now!

Tight lines, Bob

Like I said mine is 2YO, but I'm not really concerned on the teenage years to come.....I believe that if you "trained" them early you can minimize damages later, TONS OF LOVE.... tough LOVE, but LOVE at the end. They will thank you one day...

Just my 2 cents
