Default Online Brokerage Advice

Hi guys.

I'm looking to open up an online brokerage account with either Ameritrade, Etrade or Scott-Trade. I'm not looking to invest lots of money into, but more like something to play around with, as I think there are some good buys to be had now.

I already have a mutual fund, CD's and retnal properties as my main investments, so its not like I'm going to rely on one of these brokerage accounts for retirement savings lol !

So anyway, I'm opening this up to the braintrust here to see what they have to say. I'm hoping someone can give some advice on which of these online brokerage accounts you found best. Per trade the prices all seem to be relatively close to each other, so shoot away.

Thanks in advance
Alex

I like Scottrade. Nice to have a local office and their trade price is cheap

Thanks My Turn,

I was thinking about that factor too, i.e. the neighborhood office. How do you like their data and user interface ?

Thanks again.

I would research recent news on E*Trade before opening an account

I have Firstrade. Its trades are cheap and they happen quickly. I dont like the way it tracks my portfolio though. I heard Scottrade was the best and wish I went with them.

I am in the same boat as you. Now is a good time to open an online broker with a little play money. Stick to bluechips like GE.

Have fun!

Yeah I know what you mean about bluechips like GE. There are some great companies out there to be had at good prices.

Before I start putting any money into anything I was picking some stocks for fun; and believe it or not they outperformed by Vanguard Growth fund lol. I know everything sucks right now, but thats only temporary.
