Default 890 yard kill shot.

Old man put her on the money. Would have been much more impressive if he'd been laying flat on the ground, but impressive none the less.

"You lose all bragging rights when you decide to use counter-terrorism equipment to kill a sorry i will watch my languageing deer."

You've seen the web site and just to say what a bunch of idiots it must be that run it. The counter terrorism equipment looks like a 300 weatherby on a bench to me. "Counter-terrorism equipment", those guys that run that site must have their supplier on speed dial. Fuggin idiots. What if it was up to them to defend us from terrorism? I'll tell ya what, our asses would be preying to mecca or be gettin beheaded about now. Where the heck is Uncle Ted. Tell em Ted.

Being a full time firearms instructor, I get to see this stuff all the time. When I originally saw that video last year, I too was impressed but its a benchrest shooter that made it. Not saying its still not an amazing shot, but it was done with a competition benchrest rifle from a bench. As someone who teaches rifle shooting, the benchrest thing just doesn't impress me. The guns are all custom built very expensive guns which are then bolted to a bench. The shooters custom load all their ammo and its all weird calibers you have never heard of. Working with snipers all the time, the whole benchrest thing just doesn't impress me.

Now make that same shot from concealment, holding the gun, with factory ammo, and then i'll be impressed.

fishcop, he mentioned having to go up 15 MOA. At 900 yards that would have been about 135 inches??

Hey, it's a half mile shot. Long dang way. I bet Uncle Ted could do it with a recurve.

Postnote: Don't care what or how the old man did it. It's a half mile shot. But, I have to wonder.........................recon the deer stood there and allowed him to zero.........................

Does not look bolted to the bench to me, looks like just a rear bag and nice front rest. And most decent sniper rifles are custom built except for the M24 variety, they are semi-custom. Most LE's and Mil's use match ammo, which is far different than factory ammo.

I too have known snipers and bench rest shooters, and I admire them both for their skills.
But they are two completely different shooting venues, and in both cases the rifles and the ammunition is very highly customized for the task.
No one is ever going to be able to reliably make a shot anywhere close to that with any standard factory rifle with any standard factory ammunition.

One of the top bench rest shooters in the country works in my office. He showed me this video last year. It is infact a bench rest rifle, the 338 whisper caliber. Again not taking anything from these guys. They still do some amazing things when it comes to calling the wind, mirage, and adjusting their loads for distance, but I have seen some amazingly good shooters do the same thing with factory ammo out of guns they were holding. I could get into a talk about balistics and other things that would probably bore you, but there are guys right now in the military and LE who make shots like that all while holding the rifle under some pretty stressfull environments.

Yep, and some of em might even be good enough to become a president's hundered, huh.

They should have just called in a napalm strike, or one of those drones.

Then when they did that, you or someone else would say something like "make that same shot out in the open" blah blah blah..

It's a 900 yard shot - I don't care how you shake it, that's a helluva shot. Those of you have actually taken any 200+ yard shots know 500 is waaaay out there, 800 is nuts. 900 yards, yeah right... I'm impressed!

That was my point, sorry you didn't get it.

It is ridiculus and, for a lack of better words, unprofessional to consider using factory equipment for such long range shots. I guess if all you shoot is paper it doesn't really matter.

Yeah you have Shag, but you do better with a 410 than I do with a 12 gauge!
