What a bunch of BS.....they can't tell you what the weather will do in 2 days but they feel compelled to make up some lame hurricane estimate. Heck, they even named thunderstorms last year just to get to the 15 count.

How would you like a job that you can be wrong 50% of the time and still be employed?

If they say if enough years in a row, sooner or later they will get it right.

what difference does it make whether the forecast is for a "busy" or a "quiet" season?
does anyone really change anything based on it?
the storms will either come or they won't

EVERY year is supposed to be a "busy" season.

I just hope we don't have a year like last year except US landfalls. Three CAT5s in mexico. Three cat 5s hit the us and you won't be able to insure a rock, let alone a home along the coast.

The scary thing is it could lead to complacency.

I've thought about it(becoming a meteorologist) because I'm fascinated by the weather. Alas, I design "stuff" for a living(Arch/Eng) and to my knowledge have only made 1 mistake in a 35 year careerthat would/could have cost someone dearly. Fortunately IT was caught by the fabricator.

Weatherman's mantra...................the term I love is "upper level disturbance". I've had way too many "perfect" days destroyed by them pesky ULD's.
