Default MS Windows CeMeNT

"Now, from Microsoft, a company that taught the world to turn their computers 'off' by pressing a button called 'START' comes Vista..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6FnE6y9JIM

It's 2-min, 6-sec long, worth watching.

I had heard some horror stories, I'm glad my employer has not upgraded. By the way, one of the better youtube videos I've seen in a while (I know, that is not saying much)

Funny vid. Fortunately I jumped ship after a 20 years of PCs and bought a MacBook Pro a year ago. Flawless, simply flawless........and fast. If I have a question, I can have a live knowledgeable person on the phone within 2 minutes, or if I want to go down to the Apple Store, I can set up an appt for an hour of one on one training.

I run a small business, and had not upgraded hardware since 2003 except for a printer last year. When I "upgraded" to Vista last month, all I had to do was to replace three desktop systems, do a firmware upgrade on the year old printer, and buy all new versions of perfectly fine versions of Office, ACT, fax software, photo editing software.....

Never again.

So I guess if Cadillac Northstar V8 wouldn't work in a Chevette without heavy upgrades, that would piss you off too? I'm still trying to find a reason to dislike Vista. Of course, it came with new XPS that Dell built for me. I understand there have been some driver issues but what other problems have you guy's experienced? Specifics, please.

I dunno, i guess some people have problems with it. I own 2 vista machines. One is a custom PC I built myself in 2003 and have not updated anything since then and it works 100% with no issues. The other is a cheapo $650 Acer laptop I bought about 2 months ago and again, 0 issues. Some of my older games don't run on vista but wtf they are 10 years old. Other then that, no problems at all.

Oh, Apple is having it share of problems with its new OS. And many drivers and applications are non-functioning with it. Of course patches are updated but you are not allowed to say anything about it because that would be tantamount to racial slur.

Sure would, if GM touted it as an "upgrade" to my Chevette, and then, after buying it, I discovered that it didn't perform as touted.

I can see if it is marketed as an upgrade and you had to get all new equipment and software, thats one thing. But, no one has really given any specific examples, that I've seen, as to why it sucks sooooo much. Hell, I still have my XP system that I gave to my son and I'll take my Vista over that, hands down.

If you went to Chevy and they rated your upgrade performance as Less then a 1 in a 1-10 scale and you still did the upgrade who would be the tool?

If you go out and buy vista to upgrade an old box you may want to run this first:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...deadvisor.mspx

If you dont then you really shouldn't be installing software on a computer in the first place.

After buying my new Dell with Vista New MS Office (nothing wrong with the old one), New Filemaker (that won't work with the people I network withs version), New Adobe Acrobat.... Then find out no driver for my meat'n'potatoes HP laser printer...
Over $1000 in software I don't need and I guess I'm supposed to throw away my laser printer...
BEST thing I did was pay someone to remove Vista and put XP Pro on it.

I have yet to hear a single thing from a normal, everyday user that is good...
MS's way of bending us over... Like Yamaha going all 4 stroke, bend over baby, this is what you want.....

It is marginally more stable than XP. Not perfect, but marginally better. Needs a minimum of 2 Gig Ram and God knows how much hard disk space. When all is said and done, I have invested around $3,500 and many many hours of time for no significant increase in productivity. In hindsight, I could have spent a grand for two new systems, stuck with XP and Office 2003 and been way ahead of the game.

Yes, we did ... What was it you liked so much? I forget
We (you, I & everyone else) also discussed
2stroke vs 4
Etec
Grady White transoms
How heavy a Verado is
New is how heavy the Yamaha is
How long it takes to get a part for a Suzuki
The Vista thread only comes around every 3 months...
Deadrise....

macs rule. I have bootcamp and run microsoft window, granted its XP with no virus software and no problems. Actually the mac runs windows more efficently than a windows based machine. Its SOOOO much faster and smoother. You don't know till you try it.

Thats because it is a windows based machine, nothing more nothing less. It is exactly the same hardware that a Windows machine uses. The only difference is you have alot less choices when it comes to what goes into it (ram, video cards, etc) and upgrades cost alot more.
