Default DOG FIGHT

Dog Fight.
I remember the first time I took our mutt to the Vet. They had a questionnaire to be filled out and one of the questions was, How do you see your pet.
The answers ranged from, a furry PIA that eats, poops, and lives in a box in the back yard, to a member of the family.
Well, we are blessed??? With a brown, furry, four legged special needs child.
A Vizsla named Rudy. 60 pounds of solid muscle with teeth and jaws that can demolish a tennis ball in less than 10 minutes. I was thinking of renting him out to the makers of, so called, indestructible dog toys.
We had our show-down in the living room when he was almost a year old. He had grabbed something off the counter and chewing away. Like an idiot, I went in and pulled it out of his mouth. He bit me on the hand and drew blood. I went Rambo on his fuzzy butt. It was wrestle mania in our living room. He snapped at me and I got in two shots to his head and ended up with us both on the floor. I had him in a head lock and was choking him out. I felt the fight leaving him and eased up. I started to talk softly to him and with my free hand gently rub his head. He realized the 6’1 190 pound two legged dog was the alpha male. It took about 10 minutes for us both to calm down enough to break the clinch. After we separated he stared at me about a minute, I slowly reached over and started rubbing his ears. I could almost see a smile on his face as he leaned toward me and gave me a big lick on the face. We have been tight buds from that day on.

Heel,
Looking back, it would have been funny as hell to watch.
At the time it was a spooky “GOING RED” moment for me. In the heat of battle all I wanted to do was kick his azz. I’m not kidding about how strong Rudy is. He broke my little finger in one of “playing” times.
GOING RED reminds me of another Uncle Monstro story I’ll post later. It’s about Lone Star long necks, drunk goat ropers and my first visit to Willy Nelsons bar in Dallas.

Most "bad dogs" are ones thatwere never "taughttheir place" in the order of things.

Sometimes it takes a little "one-on-one" to establish the "pecking order". Would'a made a great video!

There's only one top dog per household and you're it. That reminds me of this time my wife and I got into it. Oh wait, I better not tell that one here.

A second place dog will give it's life for your family when you are not there. I know. Laird

A friend of mine had a great dane that could bust a basketball, or a football as soon as his teeth grabbed it,
I really did not know they had that much power in their jaws

It shouldn't take more than once with a Vizsla. They're generally very athletic high energy dogs with a soft temperament. They also have steel trap memories. Ours gave me a warning snap once.......We get along great now.

Some jacka$$ hit our Vizsla wit a bottle rocket when he was about 8 months. Instantly gunshy. We hired one of the states 2 best trainers and he couldn't work him through it.

If someone had done that to my English Setter @ 8 months he'd have a bottle rocket up "his" azz!

That's a shame that he couldn't be "reprogramed". I was "really" careful, working up thru paper bags and starter pistols. What gun? Guns mean "birds" now!

Had a basset hound growing up. Great dogs, strong, smart, friendly, with great noses, but also stubborn, smelly, loud and with incredible endurance. This dog could dig like you wouldn't believe, faster than a man with a shovel, I swear. He was also a very strong swimmer. Don't let their lazy appearence fool you. If you don't have a bunch of room, don't get a basset.

Anyway, a similar story. I played soccer in high school, and I used to kick the ball in the backyard. The basset would put his chin over the ball and run with it, kicking it with his stubby front legs. It was hilarious. One day, he decided to open his jaws as far as he could, and he popped my regulation Size 5 soccer ball. I knew his jaws were strong, but I had no idea he could open his mouth that far.

Cousin Eddie,
I think I can help you get your dog over the noise fear.
The problem I have found is most trainers try to shoehorn the dog into people mode. Or they think that most dogs will react the same way. That’s like saying, since one women slept with you because you bought her a drink all of them will. The problem with that logic is glaringly apparent.
I will post it when its finished.

Tell that "me being the top dog" crap to my wife...
I can't get her to understand neither submit her...

She is the top dog...

Guess "she" was the better trainer, submission can be painful.

My wife used to have a 9lb Shih Tzu that had to be put in his place about every six months. Like clockwork, the little sucker would start growling and snapping at me every six months, so we would have a bit a a mini brawl. We had that little pooch for nine years, so I got pretty good at showing him the error of his ways without hurting him.

Better watch it, next time he might call CPS on you and report you for abuse. isn't that what kids do today?
