Default Never make a lab wait !

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A Houston-area man was killed in a hunting accident after his dog stepped on a loaded shotgun in the back of a pick-up truck, triggering a blast that pierced the vehicle and the hunter's leg, a local sheriff said.

Perry Price, a 46-year-old math teacher, shot a goose on Saturday then put his gun in the back of the truck where the dog was waiting to retrieve the bird.

"I've been in law enforcement 20 years and this is probably the strangest one I've had," said Chambers County Sheriff Joe LaRive.

Investigators found paw prints and mud from the dog, a chocolate Labrador retriever named Arthur, on the shotgun, LaRive said.

Price was taken to a local hospital, but died from a loss of blood after doctors were unable to revive him.

Scary, my last name is Price and I have a chocolate lab.

Does sound like something Elvis(my lab) would do though, guess I better make sure I do not put the gun near him

That's just downright SAD Dogs name should have been "Murphy"

We have a law on the books here prohibiting loaded guns in a "truck-bed"(don't ask how I know)

Well, based on my chocolate Lab's mental capacity (he still pees on his foot every frickin' time after 6 years), I would guess any shotgun incident would be accidental, not on purpose.

My buddies black lab pawed the trigger of my shotgun while duck hunting in a blind 9-10 years ago. Ducks were circling, I had my hand on the trigger guard and the dog was all antsy in anticipation. I was kneeling down and had the gun butt resting on the floor putting the muzzle close to my face. Next thing I knew the gun went off about 6 inches from my face. The percussion knocked me down and I couldn't hear much for about 24 hours. I was never so scared in my life. Scared the h ell out of my buddy too. I am now a very, very cautious gun handler and will not hunt with those who don't take it seriously. I hunted from that same (public) blind a couple years ago and you can still see the hole I blew through the roof of the blind after all these years.
