Default Gosh darn gutters

Need help here. New home with lots of oak trees. I quit. I am sooo tired of breaking out the 28' foot extension ladder and risking life and limb cleaning out my gutters. I have 315' of 6" round copper gutters. I have called Mater Shield (12.5K) and Gutter Helmet (9K - hate the look) for estimates. No wonder there was a cooper theft ring in town. Spoke to the builder and he said he paid 12k for all the gutters and downspouts - including install. Me thinks the above two companies are trying to bend me over.

Anyone have any recommendations. I found this product on line - never heard of them before and a little skeptical that it won't collect all the debris.

Thanks for the help.

My guess is that they would get clogged with dirt and the oak leaves would stick to the porus material. I opted for the Gutter Helmut last year. While looked kind of ugly at the sample, installed you don't even notice them .... at least not on my house. But I don't have copper gutters. I've known a few people that have opted for the mesh or screen type sheild and have regretted it. I'm very pleased with the gutter helmut because not only do I not have to clean them, but the original gutters were spaced too far from the house and a lot of water would fall between the house and the gutter. The Gutter Helmut cured that. Good luck with your decision.

The nice thing about that product is you can try it out on a section and see if it works. The other stuff is real expensive and I haven't seen any that worked real well. In many - either the water skips over the gutter in a heavy rain, or the leaf guard clogs and you are in the same situation you started with.

Let us know if you find something that works.

Recovery Room,

Appreciate the response. I agree that the Gutter Helmut looks okay on a house with aluminum gutters and asphalt shingles. I have neither. There is a house on my street with the Gutter Helmut that has cooper gutters and cedar shingle roofing. It just doesn't look right. The way they run the cooper over the first row of roof shingles just looks bad. The company is sending me a sample of their product.

LI - good idea. I may just order 40' for one side of the porch that is a primary leaf clogging culprit and see how it works. Nothing to lose there.
