Default dog insurance

I am looking into some insurance for my black lab. Does anyone know a good place to look. The quotes I'm getting are all over the place and none seem to include congenital diseases, which are what I'm really looking to protect against. The dog is pretty tough and not prone to illness. So far I spend about $100 a year at the vet so paying $30/mo is a little ridiculous for no congenital disease coverage. Is this insurance worth it and does anyone have coverage for congenital illness?

Thanks

I have been wondering the same thing, we have 2 labs and a shit zu( he stays inside) but I was talking with one of our friends the other day and they just forked out
over $2500 for one of their dogs, FOR THE SECOND TIME.

About all we spend is the shots each year and misc check ups which run around $100 total at the local stop and shoot vet that sets up in parking lots for the shots but
I do hear a lot of stories of very high vet bills

I have seen offers for pet insurance at our local vet's office.

I'm sure that you can find some online as well.

Just be sure that your local vet will accept them as payment.

Good luck!

The ones I have checked with you pay the vet and then submit the payments for them to reimburse you at what ever their approved rates are

wow I would never consider an insurance policy that operates like that.

More than likely any pet insurance policy would exclude "genetic predispositions" tocertain ailments such as "hip displaysia"(sp) in Labs.

There's probably as much or more "fine-print"in a pet policy.

I think Hillary is running on the platform of universal pet insurance. It will be free and much more efficient then the current system. Did you know that in the US we have over 13 million pets running around without any coverage and in a country this great that is just not right. So a vote for Hillary is a vote for your dog.

Another option for keeping those costs manageable -- if you are concerned about incurring veterinary charges beyond your ability to pay at once -- is CareCredit, which is accepted by many veterinarians who do not directly extend credit for their services. *In the interests of full disclosure*, I have an interest in the parent company of CareCredit. I became aware of CareCredit just a few days ago because of a dog case I was following. I mention it here in case awareness of it might help anyone with arranging for any care needed by their animal(s).
If you are managing any chronic condition(s), check into whether you might save money by getting supplies and medicines in large quantities such as the pharmacies have theirs supplied for division/dispensing. Depending on medicine type and packaging, cold storage for future use may be just fine.
