Default US Dollar Not Welcome Anymore

India's tourism minister announced January 3, 2008, that the U. S. dollar will no longer be accepted at the Taj Mahal and other national Indian tourist sites. Only Indian rupees will be taken after the U. S. dollar fell 11% in 2007, hitting a 9-year-low around 39 rupees to the dollar. Until now, the Indian charge was usually $5.00, or 250 rupees. The U. S. dollar is also weak against the Euro, which came into existence in 1999. It now takes $1.4736 to purchase one Euro.

Fwiw, last summer it was around ¥123 Japan yen to $1US. Now, it is around ¥108 to $1US...and dropping. Japan's economic minstry is projecting the dollar's slide will stop/stabilize somewhere around ¥104 to $1US.

Am I reading this right?!? ... the US dollar and the Canadian dollar are now virtually 1 for 1?!?

Yes, or "stagflation". Ron Paul gave a great response to a question last night explaining the weak dollar and inflation and pretty much all the other candidates snickered and gave those rolly eyeball looks like he was nuts.

And, Yes the Canadian dollar is actually worth more right now. We have apparantly finally surpassed them in (mostly foreign for us) Government spending programs.

Do any of the older guys out there remember 1991 - "it's the economy, stupid!" - directed at Big Bush? It runs in the family. Hillary's not the answer, but Bush is the problem. He's an as**ole. Period.

Here's my .02, so enjoy...

What we need to do / quit doing is sticking our nose in EVERYONES business. Look over the course of history, the AMERICAN dollar has ALWAYS been VERY strong when OTHER COUNTRIES or parts of those countries are at war with eachother and we are not involved. Look, I'm all for us going to the Middle East and eliminating these jihad flockers, but we should go in... frickin waste the area... and get out. Then let those ELECTED clean up the leftovers, not our troops. They need to be used as designed, to KICK ASS. They are not diplomats, or policemen. If you use them, it is like taking the chains off Mike Vick's pets... let 'em go! Then let those POS in Washington earn their keep.

EDIT: I almost forgot... Ask these frickin' Indians what our Dollar is worth when we quit offering a "big Brother" role and introduce them to their friends next door...the Chinamen... Bet our Dollar becomes fairly valuable.

Anyone else get aggravated at all the $ the gov't wastes on Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Michael Vick etc. I'm not minimizing what these guys did but there is a brewing crisis on our hands. Anyonr have a to - date tally of the money spent in Iraq, a projected total expenditure? As you said it's the economy stupid. All the signs remind me all too much of the bad recessipon of the 80's.

That's your new democratic congress...they would rather "investigate" Roger Clemens than to tackle our current problems. Of course, I am sure the republicans are just as guilty.

Does this mean we have to stop making Canuck jokes? They just don't seem as funny now that their dollar is worth more than ours.
