Default Ford Escape Hybrid

Looking into new car/SUVs. Short list has the Hybrid Escape as I commute 600 miles a week. Anyone have any feedback on this model.

I am also waiting for the VW diesel Jetta in late summer. Esitmated 50ish MPG.

Thanks
Lou

Reduction in mpg must be from the mandatory EPA equipment added to the TDI.

factor in the future exhorbitant repair costs in when comparing fuel economy of hybrids. this from a repair shop viewpoint. sure save 50 bucks a week in fuel need to put 100 week away in savings to cover future repairs. escape has fords worst ever tranny, then complicate it with the hybrid sytem that replaced its convertor. ouch.

I am actually driving an escape hyrbid (work car). Its not a bad vehicle (cheap plastic interior, and light). but i really question the value of the hybrid with my 95% highway driving. if you are putting serious highway miles on it, I doubt you will see mileage that justifies the cost/potential repair costs. I have never really looked at the mileage, but I bet I get around 25 mpg

I agree that the real MPG improvement in these hybrids comes from increased efficiency during stop-n-go city driving, and not highway driving.
