Default What kind of DOG is this????

We were out hunting in a management area a few days ago and rescued this dog. It had been shot thru the back, and was in bad shape. A pretty dog though. I am happy to say she is doing well, and happy to be with us. She is some kind of pointer I think. That's what I'm thinking anyway. But the exact species I am not sure, but man does this dog have a nose. What do you guys think.

This post isn't providing a upload selection for a pic. So I am going to post it in my album, sorry.

She's a heartbreaker! Dunno on the breed. Probably some pointer mix.

We rescued a broke, thrown out hunting dog mutt one year ago. They make the sweetest pets.

In MS they are still allowed to hunt deer with dogs. Whichever dogs don't make the cut get thrown out on the back roads, where I have
some property. We found "Red Beans n Rice" up there a year ago:

Turns out he had a hip fracture at some point, but it doesn't slow him down a bit. He has taken quite well to the city life of a/c, couches, and treats...

Edit: As it turns out, I believe his downfall as a hunting dog was his gun-shyness. Found that out over the holidays with the neighbors fireworks.

Oh yeah. He goes by "Red" 99% of the time. Except to a friend of mine who insists on calling him: "Mr. Beans n Rice".

But he is a little ginger, so Red is quite fitting. He's got a red collar, to boot.

A funny story about his name: We were launching the boat one time on an off day and a cop cruiser pulled trough the launch. My GF was walking Red before the boat ride without a leash. The cops pull right up to her and the dog. Thinking we were going to get a ticket for not having the dog on a leash, I was happy when the 22 year old cop just wanted to pet the dog. He then asked what the dog's name was, so she responded: "Red". He then asked the question: "Oh, yeah. Because of his collar, right?"

Since then, it's been a running joke about what we're going to do when he gets a new collar that's a different color.

Get him a red leash instead - you wouldn't want to confuse the young LEOs!

the first picture looks like a mix of german shorhaired pointer and maybe beagle?

the second picture looks like a mix with german wire haired pointer........

I have had 3 pointers in my life.......great dogs...smart as whips and very very
loyal and loving. They love the water and the woods and the snow.....
and they love to curl up in a warm house too. I am dogless right now but
am starting to look around at the shelters near me.

My dad's last brittany had the same coloration. The size of the dog and features are not really...brittany-ish. Just to clarify I am not besmirching the dog, I meant a brittany spaniel, not Brittany Spears, that icon of wholesomeness.
