Default Security my arse...

The USCG wants to tag all recreational boats and operators because of security concerns and the US Navy can't even detect a Chinese submarine amongst their midst in the ocean. Yeah...let's keep trading freedoms for security so we can feel good. Right.

Those that would trade Liberty for Security will in the end have neither.

Seems in the '90's we gave (sold) them the technology to design and build the non-cavitating props that make for the silent running capability. Looks like the bill is coming due.

I never said the Chinese built crap for themselves. The point is they're using our money to update the military they would gladly use against us. I hope we never have to depend on our enemies for weapons because we outsourced EVERYTHING to foreign countries.

(a) The Chinese didn't "buy" the technology; it was "given" to them. During his time in office, Clinton ordered all filings and information for non-secret, non-classified patents to be put on CDs and GIVEN to the Chinese. In exchange the Chinese were supposed to clamp down on copyright and patent infringements. I remember at the time there is an outcry of "no fair" because American citizens can't even get that information for free.

(b) The Chinese do not have any modern war experience. They have no clue what it means to fight a war, any war.

That's what I meant by the bill is coming due.
If I remember correctly, he also overrode previous rules against shipping sofisticated CNC equipment to them that was required to actually machine said props. They got the software and the equipment, and we got the...........

Can you spell Korea and Viet Nam? And they did fight in WWII but got their arses kicked. Not so in Korea and Viet Nam. Till the Chinese joined N Korea we were doing a number on them. That got reversed when China joined the fracas.

Lots of comments here.
Plus I'll add mine.

Any odds that an attack sub didn't have a bead on this thing.

Can you spell 'modern' ? The Chinese have no experience fighting a MODERN war...in the same way that NASA has no MODERN experience putting a man on the moon. All of the people that were involved with said events (fighting WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, the moon landing) are all gone. To gain anything now from those experience then means going to the books and reading about it.

Actually they had a limited influence in the Vietnam War - mostly to facilitate Russian supplies and assistance. They did provide some military advisors also. A few even accompanied NVA forces in the South. But the Chinese and Vietnamese for the most part did not trust each other some would say hated each other - their shared communist ideology was their biggest commonility.

Most Historians now believe our (then) fear of the Chinese entering the war if we invaded the North or expanded the war was not warrranted. Thye doubt that it would have happened. Our (governments) knowledge of Vietnamese culture was probably as bad as our knowledge of the Iranian and Iraq culture.

we were taught in school that maos secret plan was to sit back and copy evrything from us . beat us at our game[producing the goods cheaper] saving all the money from educating engineers and scientists and research and developement. put those funds into military. then having the economy to take over the world with out a struggle....only hitch in the plan so far has been oil and energy consumption going thru the sky there.....everything else seems right on track for us to become thier slaves when they start the race to spend on defense we will loose in the same fashion we bankrupt russia
