Default router trouble. (192.168.1.1)

I am trying to access my router using 192.168.1.1 and what is coming up is google search with a list of links to router support instead of allowing me to access the router. What do I do?

No, I.E. thinks it is searching for that "string". I don't get that. It is not routable that way.

First are you trying through your wireless or ethernet?

Try putting in the full http://198.168.1.1

Some browsers (like AOl) will default your string to a search argumant unless you put in the prefix (either www or http).

Post the result.

BTW, if wireless it should still bring up your router admin software, but try hard wiring through the ethernet if you still can't get there.

Clear your cache, Google might be "correcting" your spelling!

Open a dos window, can you ping the router?

First, make sure that's the right ip.

Open a command prompt, and do an ipconfig and make sure your "default gateway" entry is in fact where you are trying to go.

Then open a new browser and go to http://192.168.1.1 or try https://192.168.1.1 (assuming .1.1 was what showed up as your gateway)

And many routers will only let you get to that page through the WIRED interface, as a security option...
