It called the United States Attorneys Office, Tax Division.......... If you dont file you will know them by first name, then you will have years to do nothing but read the tax code without interruption!!!

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

-16th Amendment

Now if you are trying to argue some technicality, Im no expert, but it seems pretty clear that the feds are entitled to collect taxes.

"Federal tax law begins with the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), enacted by Congress in Title 26 of the United States Code (26 U.S.C.)."

http://www.irs.gov/taxpros/article/0,,id=98137,00.html

Congress updates the law known as the "Tax Code" every few years. Anyone who misses the massive amounts of press coverge this generates, must really not be paying any attention at all to the government.

Despite many books, articles and 'friend of the court' filings, the Supreme Court has consistenty ruled the income tax amendment was legally ratified, and subsequent laws have generally met legal and constitutional muster.

The only successful challenges to federal tax laws I ever heard of, have been in a few limited instances where the law or derived regulations were contradictory or resulted in double taxation. Not being a legal scholar I cant give you case details, I just remember reading them in the newspaper.

We recently had a tax evader couple in my state, effectily place themselves under siege after losing their case. They kept saying "show us the law" but when it was showed to them in court they ignored it and claimed it was null and void because Ohio wasnt legally a state when the 16th amendment was ratified. That (not completely baseless) argument disregards the fact the amendment was ratified by several more states than the minimimum number required for passage.

The simple answer...

You sure can. It's in there somewhere. You can also send the IRS a request for chapter and verse.

Have fun!

As you read thru from 1040, it becomes very clear what taxes you owe. If you think this is not the law, good luck Al Capone.

I'm sorry but you are obviosly a Troll or so ignorant of how our legal system works that I could never explain it in small enough words for you to understand.

For starters, the courts do not write laws.

In case I am mistaken and you can comprehend then you should click this link.

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/friv_tax.pdf

This is either a list of IRS responses to tax questions about tax laws or a mind control program that will cause you to inject a radiosond into your butt so the government can track you to your conspiracy group meetings and your your occasional thought.

Of course, you are intelligent enough to realise that I am joking and will hopefully laugh at my woeful attempt to poke fun at you!

Assuming you are a U.S. citizen and that you are serious, you could start with Sections 1 and 61 of the Internal Revenue Code, and also take a peek at Section 3401. They are available online: http://www.fourmilab.ch/ustax/www/sections.html . If you really are curious about the validity of the imposition of U.S. tax, look up some of the opinions and briefs relating to the tax protester cases. You will find the arguments on both sides in the briefs and the courts' opinions uniformly rejecting the arguments of the tax protesters. All of this is a matter of public record and freely available to you with some effort. As the old saying goes, there is only one way to avoid taxes and even then they will get you at the final checkout (death).
