Default F22 Rapter

WOW. Watched the F22 perform live yesterday at the Bell Chase Naval Air Station. That is one impressive jet. It does things that just should not be possible. Thing is just ridiculous. I was impressed.

And it relies on parts from China. Thank you Sen. Diane Fienstein (D - Calif) for making sure the United States could not support that aircraft on its own if it had to.

Yep with the angled thrust it can turn circles inside of an f16. During mock war games at red flag in Nevada, it put a spanking on every thing in our air defence inventory. As a pilot I would love to get my hands on one just for an hour ok maybe two

As a pilot, you should know that it is referred to as thrust vectoring!

It is one bad Mo-Fo.

Here ya go...a recent email...Subject: The New F/A-22

Fast (super-cruise*) and stealthy, and integrated avionics are cool, but what's really impressive is the F/A-22s low speed stability and maneuverability. In the late 40s and to early 60s aeronautical engineers were going nuts on how to shape intakes to handle both subsonic and super-sonic air flows, without stagnation or compressor stalls. Supersonic in itself was a big challenge because you had to use shock waves to slow the intake air mass to sub-sonic before it hit the co mpressor blades, or they would stall. The engineers figured it out, but the solution was keeping a lot of air going in the front end to make sure the all hot air kept going out the back end. As you watch this Mach 2 airplane suspend motionless in air and do tail slides, be aware of the truly amazing performance of the engines and intakes.

Some used to think the Su-27 / Su-31 "Cobra" maneuver was the epitome of 3rd to 4th generation fighter maneuverability. That snap maneuver doesn't hold a candle to what this two-dimensional vectored-thrust fighter with fat independent horizontal stabs can do at low speed. There must be far more tricks up its sleeve in the high subsonic dogfight speed range.

The video is about 5 minutes long but the last 30-40 seconds are priceless.

Air Combat Command recently approved the Raptors new DEMO profile. This was the first show. Five minute video.

Watch the elevators of the airplane in this demo. They work independently. It also has vectored thrust.

*Supercruise: The F/A-22 can sustain supersonic flight without the use of fuel-gulping afterburners.

Let's see it compare to the Su37 in vectored thrust performance and not the Su27.

Awesome bird (I disrespect anything with one engine)

anyone notice that it flys on Raymarine wire?

Hmmmm?

Your absolutely correct. Ment to correct it after I read my own writting got called away from the computer. Actually its reffered to as vectored thrust/ thrust vectoring! And the darn thing can only fly if the computer is up and running. I wonder how many back up back up computers there are?

Old school technology. The aircraft uses aerodynamics from the last generation and does not incorporate any stealth technology. What it has is a sh!t load of power to manuever with. I don't think it would stand a chance against the raptor. Although I would like to see the two go head to head.

Company I worked for made a lot of parts for that plane. I wrote the N/C programs for the louvers that let the excess air out from in front of the engines.
Great plane !!!!
