Default When to cash in on AAPL?

I am thinking that this is going to keep on rolling. What do you think? It is pretty tempting to sell now.

Some people like to sell enough to cover their original purchase cost, and then let the rest ride forever. This can be psychologically comforting, especially in conjunction with a stop loss order for the balance, since one always knows that he's got his money back.

IMO- I believe in using a STOP-LOSS-LIMIT order. Lock in profit whilst you can. Fortunately I have traveled this road before. If you have a large gain in a company and it has experienced a significant gain, particularly a vertical increase in share price like Apple has in recent months, this is the time to be very cautious but not necessarily hasty. The REALITY is that a person tends to become romantic with a company/stock that has done well. This is an ugly trap if you allow it to become a trap. The REALITY is that a company can NOT continue to gain in share price in the fashion Apple has been appreciating recently without a major correcting event. This is going to happen sooner or later and when it does it can be very ugly. I believe Apple is a very good company and makes quality products but the REALITY is that it can NOT keep appreciating in the manner it currently is. I am NOT a gloom and doom guy either. I believe in the products and the market share and desirability that Apple has created but realistically they are not going to keep going up like they have been. If it keeps going up I would follow it with LIMIT-SELL orders at a price you are comfortable with accepting and can live with, without looking back and living the would of, could of, should of. When a stock keeps increasing like Apple has, it is at this time when I become very nervous of losing a large gain. The game plan is to make as much $$$$$$$$ as you can, NOT become romantic with it. You have no PRE-NUP agreement with the company or the market. My father's wise words of wisdom were, "You won't go broke taking a profit." I am NOT advocating closing your position as I think the company still has potential to gain. I am advocating protecting what you have been fortunate to experience.

Not too hasty. There is still plenty of potential here.

That is why I play day trading.I can go in and say buy Ford at $8.40 as of openning price as I did today. Buy 10,000 shares and sell them off at a 25 cent profit.I walk away with a nice little check for $2500.Nice for a days play.I think Ford will go higher tomorrow and top out around $8.87,maybe more, but give it a day or two for a pull back.I don't love the company, but it has made me alot of money this year sofar.

I did get into google last week and pulled a nice $37.00 per share profit, but it has got to rich for my blood. It will rise above $700 a share, but this stock likes to swing $30 easy in a day.Watch cellgene(celg)It dropped 6 points at the end of last week.It will be reporting thurday.Look for it to jump another $1.50 a share tomorrow.

Anybody have anything they are watching lately?

You guys have balls I just never had.... Gotta hand it ya..

I lived almost in Atlantic City and knew buying Resorts was going to be a winner. I bought the first 128k Apple Macintosh computer and knew I should buy some of that stock.... I saw a ipod stuck in everyones ear (but mine), didn't buy it then either....

Not really jealous, I invested in a thing or two and made a dollar or two.
Just gotta hand it to ya, I can't bring myself to handing off 100 large thinking, worst case scenario is I lose it... no biggy, got plenty more.... You need be able to say that or you are stupid...

Hangman across the charts today. We are primed for a sell off, but how big and how long to recover?

If there is a pull back tomorrow, look at (wag)Walgreens.Shares are picking up and it was beating down real good a week ago.Celgene in after hours are picking up.As I got up this afternoon, the dow market was down almost 200 points.I did buy in on Ford again, sold it out for a quick .15 a share profit.Look for it to go higher tomorrow, but do watch the market as a hold.Share 10 day avg was around 50+ million, but the last few days it has been around 33 million a day.

World markets are at a point of a big sell off.Oil jumped up to $87 and change.Gold is still hanging around $764.Watch for a pull back there in buy in on Goldcorp.Good buy price will be around $31.25,its trading $32 + change.

As you can tell,I don't hold anything for long.To many so called pros cost me to much money in the pass with funds.Oh,take any of this info and do as you want,I am NOT a PRO,I just look after my own money!

Time bandit,I had been expecting a sell off for about four weeks. The dow will drop below 13000.There will be a correction before christmas if not before big bird day.

If you can find a firm that offers TRAILING stop limit orders, that's even better. With a TRAILING stop limit order, the stop sell price rises if the price of the stock increases, but it does not change downwards if the price falls. Sort of a ratchet-like action. You can do this manually, of course, by placing stop orders and continually changing them, but that takes both work and discipline.

If you are looking long at appl, this is the way to go. If you are using a broker, give them a call to do this quick!

You really need to ask Rayteagarten.

And yes, I like the idea of trailing stop loss orders orders - what a great way to discipling yourself.

Well celg was a bust that cost me a few bucks.Sold it in before hours.Walgreens made up and then some.Do watch it and look for a buy point of $39.50 or lower if you can. This stock will go up $5.00 in the next year if you are looking at longs. For day trading, take .55 cent profit. If the market drops big time in the long run, this stock will hold.Do look back all the way to 1999 on its price.

Yesterday, alot of people were bring up the big "R" word alot.I think we are already there, but just don't know it!Oil hitting over $91 sucks and a closing of $90 and change hurts even more!

Glen E is right.... Apple has $250 a share price coming soon....... Or just after the results of the Xmas holiday quarter which in my humble opinion will be a “whup doozer“ (Up a bunch).

Please don’t take anything I say as stock buying advice. I (and others) only post our own personal opinions on the future and our past history of Apple stock.
