When our statements come in I normally know what to expect if anything but just glance the cc statement over quickly.

Well this past month I knew about what my CC balance should be since we ordered some parts to repair hot tub and for daughters golf cart.

I opened the statement and it was about $400 more than I thought but then I realized I had used my CC at Dick's Sporting Goods for some golf stuff that I had forgot
but that was only $75. I looked on down and the last 2 charges were from one of the places I had ordered my hot tub parts and after I reviewed it and thought about it
I only ordered 1 part from the last place and it was only $51.42 but there was another charge the same day for over $300.

I could not for the life of me recall ordering more than one part from this place and picked up the phone and called the Customer Service Department and the rep got to looking and
said I only see where you ordered 1 part for $51.42 . He then got to looking and then made the comment well it looks like we put another charge on your CC that was not yours.

He then wanted me to fax my CC statement to them, blacking out anything but the 2 charges, so their accounting department could look into it. Well I went demanded that it was there mistake
and that they take it off without me having to do anything. I could not understand why I should go to ANY TROUBLE since it was their mistake. Well after I got a little upset he agreed that they
could go back and remove charges without my help.

He said it would come off the next day, well it actually slipped my mind till this Thursday (one week later) and I thought I needed to double check to make sure the charges had been removed.

I was pretty pissed when I checked and they had not, so I called back on Friday and got the same guy. He said"it must have slipped my mind" which really pissed me off. He assured me the charges would be
removed that day and told me to check Monday since it sometimes take a day or so for the charges to come off.

I did talk with my cc company and they instructed me to wait 30 days and if the charge was still there they would take it off and dispute the charges.

The Admiral sometimes give me grief for checking statements so close, she thinks I am just griping when I ask about charges but now she realizes whey I do check them so closely.

Anyone else ever experienced something like this and is this normal for these things to happen

Sounds almost like they are "good" at overbilling, like it happens all the time, don't you think?

Did not sound like it was the first time it happened and not even an apology

In my businesses if I or an employee of mine makes a mistake we correct ASAP and the customer gets a big apology from ME

After reading your post, I checked my credit card statement and found $117 charge from the Washington Post. I have never subscribed to that paper in my life. I don't know how they even got my credit card number. It's especially scary to me, since I was the victim of major redit card fraud when I was 18. It literally took YEARS to get my credit cleaned up to the point where I could get a credit card. Now it's perfect, but I was screwed for a long time. I normally go over my bill, but it's always a good idea to double check. Thanks for the reminder!

Dislodge your head and put it into the sunshine... Disputing a charge is NOT something your cc company gets to decide whether or not you do. YOU, and only YOU make that decision. You should IMMEDIATELY dispute anything irregular on your cc.

A local restaurant has taken to adding an extra $1 to each cc charge. It drives me nuts. I dispute the entire charge, leave it up to the restaurant to prove a charge was even authorized, and then to explain why they got the amount wrong.

If you report that restaurant to the CC companies, they will be reprimanded.I believe fines of up to$3000 from the CC companies. They are not allowed to charge extra for using CC.

On the back of every statement there is a dispute form. The card companies are required by law to have it there with a statement of your consumer rights. MAIL...I Repeat....MAIL it in to the card co within 60 days of the statement closing date that the charge is on to protect yourself.
It sounds more like an individual merchant issue as opposed to a card company practice. The card co gets the same fee for a $10 charge as a $300 charge. So if it were a true scam by the cc co it would be to their benefit to sneak $10 charges rather than big honkin $300 charges.
It sometimes amazes me that I can buy my bait and gas in Clearwater and pay for it 30 days later in DE. It's actually a pretty amazing convenience that we often take for granted...Just don't get trapped by living beyond your means.
