The idea that we are going to save the planet by burning food or other vegetation is IMO simply crazy. Being pushed mainly by ag interests and farm state politicians, it has just enough pseudo-green appeal to sell at the moment, but I predict it is an idea that will land in the dustbin of history.

While its true that improper farming practices can have a negative impact on water quality (as well as improper sewage and other waste disposal), the article mentions that agricultural practices can be employed which minimize any such impact.

Here in South Florida the sugar cane industry is ruining (done ruined?) Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. Just what we need, more sugar cane fields for the ill conceived production of ethanol for fuel.
