Digital camera HELP

Looking for a new digital camera. I know the Olympus SW series is waterproof/shockproof/etc.....which is great for boating but are the pics worth a crap? I want a versatile camera to use for boating/offshore, but i want it to be usable for other things besides boating.

Looking at: 7 megapixils or more, 3-6x zoom, $200-400, with a good program to use on your CPU.

Ideas?

I have the 770SW... the pics are great if you select the proper setting (Outdoors if outdoors, etc.). Simple to use...takes video! Good to 30ft deep! I have and use Nikons as well...but on the boat, this camera is perfect.

Panasonic consistently makes good stuff. Another sub compact camera worth considering is the Canon Ixy/Ixus, or in the US the ELPH/Power Shot. The Ixus/Power Shot SD 950 IS has just been released in the US. The IS is for image stabilizing functions, its really good stuff, worth having on a digital camera.

Whatever camera you decide, it may be worth reading the review of it on the http://www.dpreview.com website before you buy.

Re: Digital camera HELP

I have a number of digital cameras, including three Sony models, a Kodak, a Reefmaster, and just bought an Olympus 770SW. I am real happy with all of the Sony's and especially with the new Olympus. But then I take 90% of my images either on the water or under it, so I am biased toward a shockproof, waterproof camera.

If you want the best then you will go D-SLR and will spend a good chunk of change on good glass in no time.

But if you are not yet ready to make that leap, but you want something that handles like a real SLR then please check out the Fuji S6000FD ($250.00 after $50.00 mail in rebate) the photos are phenominal, the iso performance is the best in the digicam class and it handles like a real camera. If you need something pocketable, this is not the camera for you. But if you want good glass, real zoom and great photos this is the one to beat. Check out the review on www.dpreview.com in fact, check out the reviews of any camera you are looking at, at dpreview.
