If you're researching a new boat - or have been a captain for many years - you will find The Hull Truth contains a wealth of first-hand information from boat owners around the world. Feel free to register and post to the Forums. You may want to read some of the existing posts beforehand in order to get a "feel" for our friendly and informative conversations. Enjoy!

These forum guidelines are a work in progress and are not complete at this time. They may be changed or updated without notice. Please follow these guidelines when using The Hull Truth forum.

TERMS OF USAGE[*]Forum-wide Terms of Usage

Posting as a New Forum Member
As a new member, it is always a good idea to introduce yourself in your initial post. Giving details about your current boating situation or type of boating information you are seeking. It is not good practice, as a new Member, to post off-site links. The Forum was designed to promote discussion of boating-related topics and not to be used to post personal or advertising links. If you wish to post an advertisement, notification, or link, then please contact The Hull Truth Webmaster first for instructions. The Hull Truth Community is a very powerful and knowledgeable one. The best advice as a new member is to be yourself. Don't try to outwit current THT users or storm into the forum with a personal agenda as it will only result in a negative first impression. / Return to the top

Posting of Offsite Web Links
You may post a link to a site other than The Hull Truth, provided it is done to answer a question and not to solely advertise or promote your website. Any posts containing links that are determined to be for the sole purpose to advertise or promote, will be deleted. No unapproved advertising of any business is allowed on this forum. If you have a personal boating-related website, and you wish to post a link, then please contact The Hull Truth Webmaster for instructions. / Return to the top

Selling Your Personal Boating & Fishing Merchandise
Forum members may only post their personal boating and fishing items for sale in the Trading-Dock forum. Any for sale posts outside of the Trading-Dock will be deleted. No dealers or brokers may sell their items using the Trading-Dock forum. For complete rules and regulations regarding selling your merchandise on The Hull Truth please read the Trading-Dock posting guidelines [HERE]. / Return to the top

Marine Industry Posting Guidelines

We encourage discussion between marine industry professionals and Forum members, but specific product and/or service advertising will be strictly limited to the Vendors Forum area. There are numerous advantages to joining our exclusive Vendors Forum area, click here for details.
Those in the Marine or Boating Industry may freely post to the Forum just as any other THT member with certain limitations.
  1. It is good practice to identify your company affiliation, without a web link, in your posts.
  2. Posting under a fictitious name to promote your product or service will result in forfeiture of all Forum posting rights.
  3. Please do not express non-factual or personal opinions on competitor’s products.
  4. You may not start a topic in the main Forum area to highlight or discuss your products. If you are assisting or offering information to another THT member on an issue directly related to your company, you may mention your company name but not use a link when posting.
  5. Current participants of THT Ad Programs must also follow these Guidelines. Banner advertisers or sponsors from other THT ad programs do not have additional posting privileges other than those detailed in that Ad Program.
  6. You MAY NOT advertise, promote, or link to any product or service related to your company or its subsidiaries. / Return to the top
If you presently have a link to a marine product or service webpage we ask that you please remove it.

Advertising Your Products or Services

There are several advertising programs for Marine Vendors offered on The Hull Truth, each with their own set of detailed guidelines. If you are not part of a THT Ad Program you may not promote or advertise your product or services here. More details on these programs soon. / Return to the top

Default NO Politics, Insults, Religious or Sexually Explicit Posts

THT and the Mods have decided that it is time to clarify and restate in one post the following

1. No Politics outside of the Bilge . . . If you might see it on the front page of a mainstream newspaper and it does not mention a given party, it is probably OK. Ideally, threads and posts should concern legislation about boating, fishing or trailering boats, and then you are not to insult anyone. If, in the judgement of a moderator, something is too far to the right or left, it may be deleted or sent to the Bilge. If it mentions names like Bush or Obama, it will be a prime candidate for deletion.

2. No Insults outside of the Bilge . . . no exceptions . . . don't try to get funny with inuendos or different spelling . . . no insults period.

3. No Religion outside of the Bilge . . . many threads start out innocently but they almost always end up with insults and people being disrespectful of other people's religions and personal beliefs.

4. No Explicitly Sexual Topics Outside of the Sand Bar . . . all of the other forums are to be treated as 'family content only'.

5. No "F" bombs topside.

Threads that break these guidelines will either be deleted or the offending posts may be deleted or the threads will be sent to the Bilge.

Repeat offenders will be contacted by the Mods and the problem discussed . . . our preference is that the poster respects the guidelines . . . but if the problem continues our only option will be to ban (for a couple of weeks or longer) the repetitive offender

6. No public griping about moderation or disciplinary action. If you have an issue with how the forums are being run, address it in a civil manner to a moderator or administrator via PM. Do not post your complaint to the forums; this is considered mod bashing, and will earn an infraction and a warning. If another such infraction is observed, it will earn a member a permanent ban from the forum in which the violations are occurring. Continued bashing will result in a permanent ban from THT.

PLEASE RESPECT THESE GUIDELINES

Exclamation If it is political. it will be deleted.

I'm sorry I have to do it, but unless I do, we'll have the Bilge up here. I know how critical this election is, but:

As we approach the election, the number of political posts put up here keeps increasing. They are welcome in the Bilge but will be deleted if posted elsewhere

If you post something political in the upper forums there is also a good chance that you will earn a vacation.
