Default Would you replace these tires?

I just bought a 1999 Harley with 2200 miles, a true garage queen. Tires still look new, no cracks, would you replace them?

If no cracks I wouldn't. I can get about 10K on a rear and 20K on a front. This is on a Road King. What did you end up buying?

The tires are at least 8 year sold. Maybe more depending on how long they sat before they were installed. Its your head they're keeping off the pavement. If it was mine I'd replace them.

Nice WG Mike
Seen one of your posts on V twin forum, and thought "that name looks familiar" .
I put new rubber on my '96 this summer and went with the Dunlop Elite 3's. They don't have the center groves the stock Dunlops have, so they don't follow grouves or repairs on the road. Very happy with them so far. As far as tire life goes, I've read that after 5-6 yrs, the rubber starts to harden up, reducing traction . Your call.
Enjoy that sweet ride.

Cheers... Tyee.

I'd replace them.

Listened to click and clack the other day and someone asked an identical question on car tires - 8/9 year old car with less than 30K on it. They said replace or the driver would be facing blown sidewalls.

Replace them. Even if you don't see it, rubber breaks down. Nice bike!

I am replacing them if they're original... Right now I have two concerns

I'll be there tomorrow...

1) That they were/are able to get a standard brake rod for it.
Prev Owner was 6'3" and had extensions on the pegs, I'm 5'9....

2) I don't have to ride in the rain for the first time ever.

The government has had pending regs on this for years - Ford says change them at 6 years regardless - some say 10. If they have been indoors you can probably be safe on the 10 year side. Other than friction (road wear) Sunlight and air pollution contribute the most to age.

Afish, I am pretty certain that you would replace 8 year old boat trailer tires.

I just took a 21" off a few months ago that looked like new but like your's, was a few years old. No cracks but, if it sat a month or so, it had a slow leak. Get em off. What's another couple hundred compared to your arse?? H.D. don't mean Harley Davidson, it means another hundred dollars.
Dam nice ride though.
