Default On-line LLC service or lawyer???

For a fairly simple (2 partners max.) LLC situation, should I pay my lawyer or just use a template program like Legal Zoom or similar???

I just formed a LLC by myself I am not sure where you live, but in Alabama it is a very simple process just fill out a form and take it to probate court pay some money and thats about it. Go to your states probate court webpage and see what you have to do.

I would go lawyer. There are complex tax issues involved (especially if it works) that vary by state. It should only be a few hundred bucks.

If you start making real $ s-corp will be better

We just did an LLC, 2 family members and an outside partner. Did it myself..a mistake. The outside partner (member) quit, is causing all kinds of problems. Pay a COMPETENT professional, unless you are the only member. Notice the word competent? Not just any attorney knows how to do it.

I agree 100%

If it were just yourself it is no big deal, here in SC anyone can do it through the Sec of State and it costs $135 to the state BUT when you have a "partner" things can get very very messy. Sooner or later the business will either grow or die and I know nobody likes to think about it but ONE of the partners is gonna die and then you are in business with families you may not like.

As one of the tax attorney's that does a lot of the tax seminars I go to says "it is easier and cheaper to get a divorce than it is to get rid of a BUSINESS PARTNER"

Setting up an LLC by yourself is easy. It is the additional documents/agreements between members that should be drafted by an attorney.

Why not see if you can get the SAND BAR to be your sponsor

If it is a Father/Son I would not see that big of a deal to form the LLC yourself, not sure what state you are in though
