This just in from Clearwater City Marina:

Redneck boy still sitting at dock waiting for something to go right!

Dayum, at the risk of offending Roy Clark and all them Hee-Haw boys, it if weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair and agony on me!

I had another mechanical issue which kept me from departing on Sunday as planned. Then my first volunteer for the crossing un-volunteered, then my second volunteer for yesterday un-volunteered too!

Actually, I ran across a couple of guys in a 53' Hatt who are making the same trip, and they have stayed put as of the past 3 days due to a little weather. I now have 3 volunteers lined up for Thursday, so it looks like we'll head out late Thursday or very early Friday morning, around 4AM or so. I was hoping to run with these other guys, but I doubt they will wait around until Thursday or Friday to head out. Then again, it will depend on the weather.

I didn't bring my laptop as I have no card for the thing and most of these marinas don't have wireless. I'm sitting in the library getting caught up on some things so I thought I'd give ya'll an update.

Keep them prayers coming!

Why would you own a "big boat" if you can't afford it???? With that being said.....good luck on the crossing.

That gets my vote as the dumbest question I've ever seen asked on a boater forum, and that says something!

Looks like the departure date will now either be Thursday evening or very early Friday. I've waited this long in order to have someone to make the crossing with, but I'm leaving Friday alone or otherwise unless weather is an issue. It's way past time to get this show on the road.

It's probably going to cost be better than $6K in fuel alone to get her back home. With all this in mind, will somebody PLEASE buy this dang boat so I can just get on a plane and go home?
Payback is a bitch. Seems like all that bullshit you've posted has convinced people NOT to buy it from you.

I wouldn't consider a trip from Clearwater to Pensacola a "Gulf Crossing". Clearwater to Cozumel, for sure, but not what you're doing. Keep along the shore line and you'll be OK. If you need help, ask the people with the 30 footers what to do.

Hi TN, hope the trip went well. Where is your ultimate destination? Now that is a loaded question, too ethereal, just mean where will you tie up at the end of this journey...

Well so much for the first dumb post about why someone buys a big boat they can't afford staying at the top. No doubt about the voice of experience with this one.

Yep, I'm back in Tennessee and left the boat on Pickwick Lake yesterday at the home of a THT member who offered me dockage to allow me to break up this trip. Thanks Jon, I owe you big time!

All in all, things were pretty uneventful with the single engine run of right at 1,000 miles. Docking was a PITA as well as negotiating the 11 locks all by my lonesome on the Tombigbee, but the ole' gal got some real impressive fuel mileage and only used 3 quarts of oil in a 12V71. I haven't taken the time to do the math, but she got better than 1.3 mpg at around 1300-1400 rpm which gave me an average speed of about 9 mph.

This is the first boat trip I've ever made when I was happy to get off the thing! Hopefully this heat wave will pass in the next couple of weeks and I can bring her the rest of the way home up the Tennesee. That should take about four days of dawn to dusk running, but the scenery will be much prettier. Besides that, my chartplotter will actually show navigational info instead of having me look like I'm running around in somebody's back yard as was the case once I left Mobile bay!

To all the well wishers I give you my sincere thanks. To those whose contributions were less than helpful... bite me!

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there!

I would'nt worry too much, PUBLIX has been handing out nasty pills for free this week.

Glad you made it safely, one monetarily challenged boater to another

You mean there's a redneck on this here forum?

Shucks, I'd like to offer him up a PBR and a Moon Pie and shoot the ship for a while.

You know, that name "Publix" sure does conjer up some strange meanings depending on how you pronounce it huh?

LOL When I first saw your post, I thought you said you were "momentarily challenged"!!! Hell, I've been challenged for a lot longer than just a moment when it comes to boating!

Alright, who was betting I wouldn't make it?
