Default You think the old guy shooting his mugger was tough...???

This is a true story that I played a small part in today. I couldn't stay late enough to witness the capture of the first animal, but I'll be there for the second one tomorrow, with a video camera.

Due to a recent and very unfortunate event that involved an alligator and a dog on the property that I manage, we had to have NC Wildlife send someone out to remove the gator from the site. This was supposed to go down at about noon today.

When the guy shows up I am absolutely floored when out from the pick-up truck steps a 75 year old man and his nice little wife!!!!! A quick handshake prooved that he still had a crushing grip, but come on----the dude is 75 and his back-up is his 5 ft nothing wife!!!

After introducing myself I had to ask (with more than a little of a smile on my face) how in the world he and his wife were gonna get that big ol' gator??? He say's "We ain't. She's only gonna be video taping. I'll handle the gator." At this point I'm almost laughing (along with the fella I'll add--didn't wanna get my a$$ whipped!) and I tell him I just gotta know how he's gonna do this. His next answer---He say's "I'm gonna wear his a$$ out Kentucky style!" My laugh fades away as I realize that he's dead serious.....

Well, the gator didn't seem to be in the mood to go on a road trip and when I left the scene at around 3 pm, I was under the impression that a trap was going to be set and would likely have a hold of the suspect gator tomorrow morning. Apparently, shortly after I left though the gator and his mate decided to make an appearance.

The story that I was just told a few minutes ago was that the guy sat on the bank using a stick to launch marshmallows out into the water to entice the gator close enough to get the now-famous "Top jaw rope" on him. He then proceded to drag an 11.5 foot alligator onto the bank and single-handedly secure the animals jaw and feet. The only help he needed was getting the animal off the ground and into the tube style enclosure to caryr him away. By himself. Alone. Without any help.

I can't believe it myself, but it's on video tape, and I get to watch him get another tomorrow.

He might of been brave
He might of been tough
He might of been strong
Was confident for sure
But in the opinion of this nobody southern country boy.
HE AIN'T GOT A DANG LICK OF BRAIN BETWEEN THOSE 75 YRS OLD EAR'S

He's going to wake up one morning in the belly of one of those gator's. Take down an 11.5 ft gator with one person and no back up!!

The old guy must have been good huh!?
But remember the alligator wasn't that hungry after
Fido!

I'd just assume to throw dynamite or a grenades!

I think it would work!

It works
You just don't mess with a lizard that size. We had a 13 footer take out a 1500 lb bull and a calf a few yrs back. That's power! When it got the wife's dog she got pissed and took care of the problem herself.
They have become a serious problem her in North Florida. There are places that we would swim as kids that result in death if we tried it now.

I manage a 350+ acre golf resort situated on a 2000 acre development complete with swamp, marsh, creeks, natural lakes and man made reserviors. A conservative estimate of our population would be well into the hundreds.

In NC and upper SC they are limited pretty much to the coast and coastal river systems. I think if you go farther south down the coast you might find them farther inland. Interestingly enough, there is a healthy population within a mile radius of me right now (I'm about 1.5 miles from the ocean), but I've never seen one in salt water around here.
