Default Float Trip?

A few buddies and I have a weekend set aside in August to do a fishing weekend. Our plan right now is to hit my buddy's place and camp out on the Juniata in PA.

However, my buddy and I were talking about doing a float trip somewhere instead. Basically, we are looking for a place within a few hour drive (i live in Odenton, MD), where we can put in our kayaks/canoes and have someone take our vehicles down river. Primitive riverside camping would be great. Just need to have our trucks when we finish up. I've heard some places on the Shanendoa (sp?) do this but haven't been able to find any online.

Anyone know of any places?

Might be a little far, but the Allegheny river from Kinzua all the way down to Franklin is awesome. Its about 2 hrs. north of Pittsburgh.

---As for the fishing, there's plenty of smallmouth, some decent walleye, and the occasional musky.

Susquehanna all the way as it is very close to where you live. I used to live in York county, Pa a long time ago and it was smallmouth heaven.

Look at Long Level as a take out place as there are a few marinas and have someone local drop you off further north, at a riverside park or something.

I used to do day trips all the time in a 12' zodiac. Put in 10-15 miles up river and float all day where very few people can access. Smallmouth fishing at its best.

There weren't any lowhead dams on the section I was on, but be sure to check where you plan on going, they are killers.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think our ideal scenario would be to get wherever we are going Friday night and camp. Put in saturday morning, float/paddle all day. Camp someplace riverside Saturday night. Paddle a few hours Sunday morning and have our cars waiting for us. I'm guessing that kind of thing might be a bit hard to find.

ah crips BuckTales, you took all the fun out of this post........Deliverance......carry 3 hand guns when walking in the woods.... ....they always figure you are carrying a spare, but rarely figure a person to be carrying two spare guns.

Word of advice from a fellow long time canoer, know the river you plan to travel, I've done 1 - 2 mile stretches of rivers which has taken 12 to 14 hrs to complete...... ......kind'a throws the whole game plan right off.

How many boats are you figuring will be going? Sounds like it will be a great time, wish I was tagging along.
