This should spark some heated discussion.

I don't care what anyone says this breed of dog is bad news!!

Its not that these dogs attack anymore than other breeds it what they do when they attack that makes them so dangerous.

Did the owner buy that dog from Michael Vick?

Ouch. I have to question the sanity of anyone that keeps any animal with such an overwhelming potential to do great harm or death.

If I leave a gun out and a thief breaks into my house and shoots himself or someone else, I can/will go to prison for 3-years for having a firearm not secured (in a safe). Why shouldn't owners of dangerous animals also be held to similar criminal standards when their pitbull dog or mt lion or boa constrictor or whatever kills someone?!? ;?

I know around here, the insurance companies will not carry you if you own an "aggressive" breed, including a Pitbull, Rotty, Doberman, Boxer, etc.

I see where you guys are coming from, the dog has fighting instincts which result in some terrible attacks. But ultimately, the responsibility falls on the owner, both in the way they raise the dog and how they contain it. I think one of the major problems here is that it has become so "cool" among young thugish trouble makers to own them.

Give me a 4 week old pit bull and a 4 week old lab and I promise in a years time i'll show you two of the friendliest, dopiest, most playful mutts you've ever seen.

I don't think I would own a pit bull. Way to much to worry about.

Time after time, the same argument comes up..."it's not the dog, it's the owner". While there is no doubt that how an animal is raised has an impact on its behavior, I am convinced more and more that Pitbulls in particular have an innate gene that makes them aggressive and unpredictable. I've had numerous friends who owned a pitbull who was just "the sweetest thing ever", until the dog turned on the owner or the neighbor or whomever. And I don't hang with thugs or anyone that would raise an animal to create a vicious attack. These were "normal" dogs who just snapped for no real reason.
Someone commented that they don't attack any more than any other dog, it's what they do when they attack that makes them so bad. I'm a bit skeptical about that. I understand that there are plenty of dog attacks, but I would just love to see an actual percentage that were done by Pitbulls. It has GOT to be high.
I am the utmost animal lover, owning two dogs myself. But a Pitbull is a proven hazard and liability. There isn't one that I would trust farther than I could throw it, no matter how "perfect" it was raised. I'm a proponent of all anti-Pitbull laws and see no reason to own one other than to look like you're in a rap video.

I'm sorry to say but that is one breed of dog I'd never trust and never own. I have a neighbor on the block who had three of them in the yard. They literally attack the chain link fence when someone walks by. They've scared many an adult and child and he seems unconcerned. I know one day they will get out and maul or kill someone. I just hope I can get to my shotgun before they do.

You need to remove boxer from that list. We own one and have 2 insurance policies. Even my agent owns a boxer that is blessed by her carrier.

As explained to me it's not just agressive dogs that they don't like. She said that some companies don't even like goldens, labs or retrievers. ;? Must be near the #1 dog owned by families. Right? The problem is that so many are out there they have more history of biting something. I will admit that this info is near 4 years old.

I might not be up to date on my info but my boxer stays. I don't care if I need to find another company to write the policies.

My boxer is dumber than your honor student. He proves it everyday.

His ears are not clipped but his tail is docked. The floppy ears make him look stupid. Hard to get him to bark.

I need to learn posting pictures.

Yeah Dobermans are lethal killers too.. I am taking my life in my hands every time I steal my pillow BACK from my Doberman or make her get out from under the covers (in bed) yep killers

I don't know what to think about Pit Bull's... I see far too many useless humans that own Pitt's and train them to kill.. Just look at any Rapper, that's all the rage along with gold teef and a hummer on fourties...

I've seen a lot of gentle Pitt's that local people have and have never had an issue with, and then I've seen all those that have attacked, and each one that has attacked always seemed to be owned by LESS than desireables..

If you do not mind me asking, who is your carrier?

My BIL has a pair of them and had a heck of a time finding a carrier, and even then, has to pay a substantial premium for them.

Some Pit Bulls are very very mean. I have seen and dealt with others that are very loving. I am very careful with Pit Bulls, but I have family members that have them and they have all been fine. The one thing I dont trust a Pit Bull with is another animal, they do love to fight with other animals. Generally, the ones that are aggresive are always aggressive.

They're illegal in the Detroit city limits if your under a certain age. Any pit confiscated is destroyed regardless of temperment. They say that the pits "click on" at around 18 months old. Basically, when something snaps in them and they're ready to fight. I know they say they're great family dogs, but I just wouldn't trust one around my family. Bad news. You never know what will trigger them, or what they're true blood line is. You don't know if somewhere down the line they were bred for fighting.

I used to volunteer in a animal shelter, 60% of the dogs in there were pit bulls, no one wants them,
after 6 months most had to be put down. The owners never came for them, some were abused.
Its a pretty sad situation..These dogs don't belong around children or other dogs. Its in there genes
to be agressive and very few are trained right. Its a shame what these THUG type people have done
to this breed. They think because in there country they can abuse dogs they can do it here, they say
its our culture..NOT HERE Its more of a problem in the cities the shelters are full of them. SAD VERY SAD

We had a local old lady killed by one a year or so ago here in Richmond.

It attacked her small pouch as she went to the mailbox then killed her.

Normal dogs don't do that. Only the local hoods have them here.

I'll shoot one like the predator it is if one comes on my land.
