Default Citizens Arrest!!!!!!

In our local newspaper this am their was a story about our Sheriff having an expired drivers license, seems it had been expired for over 16 MONTHS and when he "realized" this
he had to retake the road test of which he FAILED THE FIRST TIME.

If I recall Barney was put under CITIZENS ARREST by Gomer when he broke the law, reckon we should do the same.

I will try and link the story

"The sheriff said he was never pulled over while his license was expired and never had a reason to check it."
That's rich......like another LEO would pull him over. These types act as if they live by an entirely different set of rules from the rest of society. If I had a dime for every time a LEO blew past me on the highway running 90 MPH while not on a call, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, not giving signals for lane changes or turns, I'd be able to afford SeaNile's Bertram.......two of 'em......

In 18 years of Law Enforcement I have never written anyone for an expired license it really is so minor its not even funny, but it does show a lack of attention for the Sheriff. As far as the speeding and whatever else, sure I have done it, so have you. It happens. This is why I do very little traffic work.

I applaud anyone that is in LE, in fact my son is leaning that way, but this guy is an IDIOT. He over spent his budget by more than 1.8 million last year and his quote was "I am not an accountant"(NO CRAP).

He was a deputy from the days our county had the "Good Ole Boy System" and a corrupt sheriff and it amazed me that people voted him in but that is a whole other story.

Our local paper has a section called Straight Talk where people can phone in comments on various items and I am sure this will be flooded

Cracker, if I were to say I never sped, then it would be a lie. My point is that many--not all, by any stretch--LEO's drive aggressively and recklessly with impunity. After all...who's going to give them a ticket? I have family in law enforcement...and they have also expressed the same concern I have regarding the driving habits of many of their fellow officers.
Back to the subject of the Sheriff driving on an expired DL, it's laughable....and a perfect example of how some--and I am sure they are in the minority--hold themselves above the rules and laws that they are supposed to enforce, and the rest of us must live by.

Lots of people shoplift also, so does that mean it's "OK" for cops to do it too? how about driving while impaired? Where does it end? You are the 'professionals'. You are supposed to set the example. Understand, I think that you have a tough job, but why should the rest of us 'civilians' care to walk the straight and narrow if you don't?

I have to agree with you there, Cracker. My comments weren't an effort to start a LEO bash-fest, and it is unfortunate that this thread has taken a turn to that. Like I said, I have family in law enforcement...I have much respect for what they do and I am glad folks like them--and you--are around to protect and serve. They are under a microscope....held to a higher standard than the regular citizen. It may not be fair, but it's true. Someone like the Sheriff in Anderson does not need to be in office....probably something that will be rectified in the next election.

Remember...He is a Politician...elected to office..regardless of his past. Sounds to me that he is just another stupid, dumbazz, piss poor driving politician. Cant be too bright if his statement was accurately quoted in the article. You know when you read something about someone and you get a mental picture of what they look like...well I see him as a 100 year old dusty fart that doesnt know when to call it quits...

Not as bad as our recently elected State Treasure, Ravenel, he just got caught with cocaine that he was using for "favors" and is under federal indictment. That Dumb A$$ spent $5 mill of his OWN money to get elected last Nov

I can certainly relate...Our ex-Governor here in Alabama, Don Siegelman, was sentenced to 7 years yesterday in Federal Prison for bribery / corruption. He was Junk and still is. Its a good thing to hold these people ( all people ) accountable for their behavior. I do however believe that there seems to be more of an effort to charge and convict these politicians now, more so than in the past. And that is a good thing....I would not advocate witchhunting, cause we all have some skeletons in the closet, but if it is serious....they need to be knocked down a few notches.

The thing about it is that just about everyone from the lowcountry knew about his leisure time antics, and he was still elected. You'd also be surprised at how many other elected officials knew for years about his drug abuse and said nothing. Probably because many of them were being passed the toot tube after Ravenel had his line...

I guess we are the same state that kept electing a senile old man that served as a U S Senator till he was 100 as well as about 25 years ago elected John Jenerette(believe that was his name) to office even though he was in jail

I read that knew a lot of this about Ravenel but could not pin anything on him till after he got elected
