Thanks all.

Sometime this weekend, please pour a little bourbon over some ice and raise a toast.

Grampa was one of those people that Tom Brokaw writes about in his book. He was a classic man’s man that earned immediate respect from anyone who met him and awe from us kids. We owe both of my Grampas a immense debt as they both served in WWII - one in the Navy in the Pacific and one on the ground for the Army in Germany and (mostly) France.

Both men had more of an impact on who I am today than anyone I can think of, especially as I grow older and realize what being a good man is all about. I can only hope I am even halfway emulating them.

If you don’t have any or a taste for bourbon, a gin martini will substitute nicely.

Here’s to good drink, good fun and great men!

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Godspeed to Grandpa and my deepest condolences to you. My grandfathers died when I was very young and I never really knew them or found anyone to fill their shoes until I was an adult. "Neighbor Dave" was just that, a neighbor, who taught me that I had strength inside that I did not believe I had. He died very young at 58about 8years agoof cancer and I miss his spirit, levity, and guidance.

You have many years of your Grandpa's insight, wisdom, and presence in your mind and heart. He will always be there for you when you need him.

Sorry for your loss.

Thoughts and prayers for your family.

I had a grandfather that served Army infantry WWII. He used to tell me stories how they marched all over France and Germany.

Glass raised....toast made.
