Default Customer Shoots Robbers During Subway Holdup

I'm not sure where I fall in the whole gun control issue, but this certainly lends an argument to concealed, LICENSED, gun permits:

Customer with gun kills 1, wounds another during robbery at Plantation shop

PLANTATION -- One gunman is dead and another is in critical condition after they tried to rob a sandwich store and were shot by an armed customer Wednesday night, authorities said.

Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale, and Fredrick Gadson, 21, of Fort Lauderdale, entered a Subway restaurant at 1949 N. Pine Island Rd. and demanded money at gunpoint about 11:17 p.m., said Detective Robert Rettig, a police spokesman.

They then attempted to rob the lone customer, John Lovell, 71, of Plantation, by forcing him into the restroom, but Lovell, who was legally armed, pulled his gun and fired, police said.

Arrindell collapsed at the scene, while a police K9 unit found Gadson hiding in a hedge in front of a nearby bank at the Jacaranda Square shopping center, officials said.

Both men were taken to Broward General Medical Center, where Arrindell died.

Gadson was in critical but stable condition, investigators said.

Police said Lovell appeared to have shot in self-defense.

Charges are pending against the surviving suspect, Rettig said.

Police have found a handgun used by one of the suspects, Rettig said

Lots of sides to take, but I agree if you are legally licensed then you are held accountable to higher standards ie. self defense OK, but not when someone calls you names (an exaggerated example). Good for the older gentleman. I'd buy him a beer.

Hey, no doubt this story could have had a much different ending if that customer had not been armed. Maybe this will make thieves think twice before holding up businesses and/or customers.

Outlaw private rights to gun ownership and CCP's, and there will be little reason for thieves to worry about such things.

Gotta love a geezer that stands up for what's right. Feel bad for him having to kill the idiot though, but at least it saves the court and prison costs.

Ya bunch of sicko's! Those troubled youth probably came from a broken home and a failed school system. As a matter of fact, society probably failed them altogether. He could have used that weapon to nuetralize the situation and possibly get them the help they needed.

Nothing to worry about. The other guy will get life at the best, maybe even death. In Florida it's called Felony murder. Even though his partner was shot dead by the victim, he will be charged with his partner's death because it occurred during the commission of a felony. so in the end, the joke is on him.

Im with you Dr. Jim..... Compark, Ill tell ya right now, someone tries to force you anywhere during a robbery, you better fight. A lot of very bad things can and do happen when people are moved into coolers, restrooms and etc. by robbers. Even if I am unarmed, I am fighting in that case. I will not be an executed victim..
I will also bet Grandpa was armed with a 5 shot .38. Not bad shooting at all...
