Default No dogs on the beach.... WTF?

This pizzes me off. "No dogs permitted on beach at any time"

I understand there are some people who would bring their bad azz dog that has already bitten 9 people to the beach on a Sunday in July. Some people that would never pick up it's droppings. Some dogs never stop barking.... There's always the few that ruin it for everyone.

I walk my dog on the beach just after sun-up every morning (unless it is high tide and there is no beach), anyway. This morning I encountered a couple bird-watching, as Thelma and I walked along the beach. They are looking at birds through a ten zillion power scope so far away I could barely see them. I greet them "Good Morning" and this biatch went nuts when she looked up and saw Thelma. Asks me if I can read? Who do I think I am? Can't I see my dog is frightening the piping plovers? Now I do this the 7 months a year that I am home in NJ, and never had this happen before. I asked her "Did you take your medications today?" (while I decided exactly how I was going to handle this)... Then I said "Look idiot, those birds are a half mile from here, and they're sea gulls not piping f'n plovers", besides my dog never can catch the basterds anyway" I left them shaking their heads in disbelief and just continued my walk.
I decided long ago if I got fined, so be it, I'll pay the fine. I don't really care. People walking their dogs on the beach before sunbathers get there or after they leave aren't bothering anyone.
Am I just being azzhole here?

No you are not. Next time bring an air horn with you and when you see them, squeeze it and scare off the birds.

When she asked if you could read, you could have replied

"No hablamos Inglesia".

Sounds like a Benny who has not unwound yet on their weekly rental. They'll start to relax on Thursday, and then go back to New York on Saturday morning.

Yeah, I had run into a similar situation a couple months ago. A state cop told me the dog was allowed on the pier but that he didn't care, but the local cop would be making his rounds in the next 15-mins or so, and he does care, so I should think about having the dog off of the pier by then. I thanked the state cop and went overto the beach and was greeted by a "dogs no longer welcomed here" sign. When did all of those happen?!?

Eyeball - 6/27/2007 10:15 AM.............. was greeted by a "dogs no longer welcomed here" sign. When did all of those happen?!?
I saw a new sign reading exactly that this winter for the first time at the southern end of St Lucie State Park near Pecks Lake... You can only reach the park by boat, there's not even a docking facility! I don't believe I have ever seen more than 20 people sunbathing during the winter, but there's the sign. There were some pizzed off dog owners there first time I saw it, I ignored it all winter, will pay the fine if I get nabbed....

It is bad enough that the escalation of seashore property values has changed the shore so dramatically. The shore many of us enjoyed growing up has changed for the worse everywhere I look. Nobody can start or justify buying a bait shop, a boat livery, a marina, hardware store, soda shop... Working folks can't afford to live on the islands. Properties turns into McMansions instead. I've said many times, I'm glad I was born in 1951.... I got to enjoy what kids today will only read about.

Now I can't legally even walk my dog..... Not to worry though, I have fine money!

My rant is over now.... Where'd I put the chill pills, or my bong?

If NJ is anything like Delaware, its because the Piping Plover is the most important living creature ever. They close whole beaches for them here.

One of the main reasons my weekend abode is in Montauk (Long Island). A very few of the more popular sections of ocean beachs have a no dog restriction 10am-5pm during the summer season. There is quite a number of the less popular beaches without any silly leash laws where dogs are most welcome at all times. I think there may be more dogs than people on weekend mornings in the summer at the popular gathering spots. Come on down!

I live florida and don't like dogs on the beachs people don't pick up
after them (I am sure ALL of you thter's do 'yea right') but even
beyond that not all dogs are friendly and some people don't
like muts in there personal space kicking sand all over me.

I would have told her the dog is an illegal alien and there is simply nothing the code enforcer can do about it and they've tried on numerous occasions.

For me personally, at the beach two things I DON'T want to hear, One is children balling their eyes out and dogs barking continuously and the last thing I want to see at a beach is dog sh!t! That is in part why I bought a boat. Now having said that, I don't have a problem with walking their dogs responsibly first thing in the morning and at sunset.....but clean up that damm sh!t!

I applaud you Mike for going against the grain......I don't even want to imagine what life is going to be like in 30-50 yrs.

Funny, when I go to the beach or sandbar, I see more crap left by humans than dogs. Cigarette butts, cans, wrappers, water bottles, bags etc...

My dog causes less grief than the family of 10 playing loud music.

Not every one picks up after their dogs, but not everyone pics up after themselves.

Don't like dogs? Stay off the snadbar/beach where they are or stay at home.

That’s funny…I can see an exchange in cross examination of witnesses if the defendant claimed their dog was an alien. Who is to say any different, and the cost to the city to examine the mutt and test its DNA, etc would be higher than anything they will get from a guilty verdict.

While I don't like anyones freedoms infringed upon and while I am a two dog owner myself I can agree with the no dog signs.

Like I told my sis-in-law who insisted on always bringing her dog to my house,
"The only people that like YOUR dog is YOU"

IMO, your reply says it all, about sea and lakeshore land and beaches. It is a GD shame.

About "can't you read?", when I was younger and didn't care if I got back in some azzhole's face, I would often respond, "can't you mind your own business?" or "can't you ask a polite question." This never helps them, of course, but usually made me feel better.
