Default Verizon Fios?

Anyone using it?

Pros?

Cons?

How does it compare to Cox?

Thanks in advance.

Not available in my area, never used it, know nothing about Cox...my friend in NYC has it, loves it, and if I could have gotten it I would have. He is using it for broadband, voice over IP, and I forget what else. Loves it, his biggest problem was getting someone out to hook him up. We don't have fiber optics in my hood, probably never will, so I am doomed to suffer.

Try to get customer service on the phone once you sign up with them. The technology is good, their customer service needs work...

I have verizon Fios for internet, tv and phone. The pictures by isfar the best. I had cable, dish and directtv but the picture in fios is awsome. The services is getting better. My next door neighbor installs fios and tells me that they are swamped and never expected to take off so fast. The multi room DVR is a great feature. HD channels are great.

I heard that DirectTV is installing new Sat the will allow them to broadcast 150 HD channels.

I have it, and I like it. It is very fast.

One nice thing, if there is excess capacity on your line, you get it, so I am actually getting much faster throughput than I am paying for. Maybe once they have sold it all over the neighborhood, they might not be able to provide what they promise, but so far, they are just fine.Things load as fast as I can click on them.

I did need tech assist once, it turned out to be nothing, just reset the router, and it came right back up. But anyway, I had the tech on the line right away, no waiting.

I have had Fios Internet for around 1-1/2 years and the Fios TV for almost a year. Internet is faster than cable (even lowest speed tier) and cheaper and the TV signal is the best. TV signal is not nearly as compressed as Dish Network and DirectTV. Even the standard channels look good on my 56" Samsung DLP. Also nice to pay one bill for my phone/tv/internet.

Bear in mind Verizon pulled a con job on the gov't with their fiber network. They've managed to get it exempted from equal access sharing. This means you're held hostage. Doubly so if you fall for them removing your copper wiring. If/when you get sick and tired of their shoddy customer service and horrible network censorship policies you'll have to PAY THEM to reinstall the copper. Don't expect it to be cheap either. So as long as you don't mind selling yourself down the river, g'head...

can you give more detail please on this:

"Verizon pulled a con job on the gov't with their fiber network. They've managed to get it exempted from equal access sharing. This means you're held hostage. They should be ready to go in my area in September, and I was thinking hard of switching over; Phone, Cell Phone, Internet, TV all in one is enticing (if there is money savings).

What are the censorship issues? The copper wire issue?

AT&T is building their FIOS like mad, to directly compete with Verizon. The caveat there is that they are only running fiber to the drop, then its copper to the home. You will lose speed & resolution as compared to Verizon 100% fiber.

COMCRASH? Excuse me while I puke. Useless twits who don't give a crap about their customers.

As soon as FIOS comes, I'm outta there.

They have an exclusive cable deal with my town which lets them rob customers blind, at will. Some competition will be great!!

NOt that I want to do business with Verizon, mind you. My crappy Verizon DSL (in my Summer home) just sent me a note that starting next month, my rate will go up 13% Screw them! As soon as they get a bit closer to my cable company, out they go! I hate them all!!

About a month ago they wired all city buildings for it including all the schools. My house is next to a school and I'm looking at the fiberoptic cable now. Yet they still say no service is available to my area yet!
