Default Any TV repair techs here?

I have a Sony Wega (CRT) 36", 4 or 5 years old. Screen has a green tint to it that I cannot adjust out. Self diagnostics show the problem in the AKB.

Out of warranty and the Sony tech wants $125.00 just to look at it. He wont give me any parameters for a fix over the phone. Over 1200.00 when I bought it. Just dont want to throw good money after bad. Any thoughts?

Is there any Degauss function built into the service menu? I'm sure a Degauss would be the first thing the tech would do, and then would probably re-align the color guns. But I'm not a TV Tech so don't take my word as sage advise

AKB - auto kine bias ------ this circuit automatically adjusts the 3 video drive circuits to compensate for the CRT ageing, it tries to keep the 3 colors (RGB) equal so that when the color is off you have a good black and white picture. You have to have good b/w before you can have good color. My guess is your CRT is getting weak. You may be able to compensate for this by turning up the screen control/ aka G2. This control is inside the TV, where the HIGH VOLTAGE is, not a customer adjustable dohickie. If you call your local tech and toss out some of these terms (screen grid, G2, kine bias [pronounced kenny]) you may get overcharged for being a know it all
