Default Girl's Feet Severed at Six Flags

This is horrible:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Police confirmed that a girl's feet have been cut off at Six Flags' Kentucky Kingdom.

Officials said they got the call around 5 p.m. Thursday and both her feet were detached at the ankle.

According to MetroSafe dispatch supervisors, the girl was riding the Superman Tower of Power, which is 177 feet tall and drops riders at 54 miles per hour. According to Kentucky Kingdom, the girl was injured when the ride malfunctioned. Dispatchers said she was taken to University Hospital.

Fortunately for the girl..the leading limb transplant doctor and hospital is in Louisville. A guy from Jersey that lost his hand a while back flew to Louisville and had a donor hand attached and is now functioning...the first of it's kind. Hopefully they can reattach her feet.

Best possible outcome here: She gets her feet reattached, fully functional.....and then gets PAID!!!!

She might not make the height restrictions for any of the rides now.

Talk about getting cut down to size or taken down a notch or two.

Man that would really have to suck!

Or Irene ~ if she's of Japanese decent.

It really is a horrible thing to have happen at a place that's supposed to be so much fun. My boys heard about it and I could tell that it had an effect on 'em.....they're not so sure Six Flags is such a "fun place" after all.

Will have to read up on the ENTIRE story and then sort out the details. Sheesh.....

Anyway - hopefully the little girl will have a quick recovery and somethin' to tell her grandkids about one day.

BTW ~ Funny comebacks guys!!!

My son and I were discussing this yesterday and he is 13 but stated if 15,000 enter the park daily and 10,000 of those ride that ride for 120 days a season your only looking at 1,200,000 riders per park but Six Flags has 5 of those rides, so now you have 5 X 1,200,000 = 6,000,000 riders yearly, out of that 6 mill there has only been one bad accident, why should Six Flags, or the Insurance company be subjected to a large settlement ???

Seems like if the ride was defective, or had a known safety issue there would be more of these types of accidents....

I feel for the young lady but until the facts are out why start screaming Six Flags is at fault????

Good point jt ~ unfortunately, seems folks (and the media) gotta blame SOMEBODY for mishaps rather than take responsibility for themselves and their own actions.

It'll be interesting to find out all the DETAILS of what exactly occurred and why. Seems a TEENSY bit "odd" to me, too.

It was a result of a cable snapping. If under enough tension, cuts like a guillotine. Defective part or did someone miss something on the last inspection?

Investigation and re-inspection should be able to tell. Horrible thing to happen to anyone let alone a young girl.

It is not suprising that some people find it necessary to make fun of a tragic event.

jtburf-

Your hypothesis of numbers are irrelevant to the fact of this unfortunate accident. This individual enter the park on two feet and lost them at the facility on a ride they own and operate. With that in mind and if the individual was in compliance of the rides requirments they are responsible. Having a mechanical failure does become their fault. As for compensation, this will be up to the parties involved to reach a agreement of what will be fair and rational.

I too can't understand the humor. Perhaps these folks don't have children.

I have a prayer I say every day that contains "please help me bring my children up safe, healthy and confortable, and in the eyes of God." I know that whebn I say goodbye to them every morning, or when they go out, or when my eldest goes back to college, that there is a chance that I won't see them again or that they won't see me. I don't dwell on it to the extent that it affects the way we live, buit I am aware of it.

As that family entered that park they were excited and looking forward to a great day. At the end of the day one child has no feet, a long painful road ahead of her and, hopefully, will retain full function. While she may lose the physical pain I hope she also loses the mental.

God bless her.

Well said Menzies. Some things I just fail to see the humor in too.

Guys.....I DO have children ~ two GREAT boys whom I love with all my heart so PLEASE - keep things in their proper perspective.

We are NOT "making fun" of the young girl and what happened to her - we are seeing HUMOR in a tragic circumstance while at the same time hoping and praying for the BEST for this girl and her family.

My GOODNESS......lighten up~ life's too short. This is a forum filled with people from all over the world with fishin' and boatin' in common. I also feel like we can certainly have a little humor and fun in amongst the "serious" stuff of life.

BTW ~IF you fail to see the humor in something - just ignore it.

Let's try to be a little more tolerant of each other - shall we...?
Thanks
FJ
