Default Chevy Duramax?

Just bought an 03 Chevy Duramax that is in excellent condition. It was a single owner, clean carfax and as it happens my mechanic knew the previous owner and I got the full history....clean bill of health all the way around.

The previous owner put quite a bit of miles on it as they traveled to horse shows.

QUESTION...How many miles have any of you gotten out of the 6.6 deisel Duramax with the Allison tranny? How many should I expect as long as proper maintenance is performed?

Mr. Go, I've had 3 of them, the newer generation Dmax is the way to go. (there were injector issue in the 01 and 02's) My last 03 had 165k and was still perfect. My dealer has them as high as 400k from his customers. As soon as they make a Dmax suberban I'll be in a dmax again.
Good luck

Have an 06 Dmax with 70k on it and it has needed nothing other than oil changes and fuel filters. Probably the finest truck I have ever owned and it will pull down a house while getting close to 20mpg. Good luck.

I hava an 04 with 124,000 no problems. According to the computer in the truck I get about 24 on the road, I do have a chip. The only issue Ive seen is the fuel warning light comes on when you have about 50 miles left in the tank, I ran out once when the fuel read out said that I had 47 miles to empty.

my wife had a 2004 that she used to use to haul a 8 horse trailer with. At 25k she bunrt up 3 clutch packs in the trans and they needed replacement. At that time we switched to GM's synthetic transynd atf and no longer had any issues, truck now has about 120k on it. Op temp also dropped about 20 degrees. She has since sold truck and replaced it with a classic 2007 d-max which is an awesome truck-great power and mileage.

Love my 2004, but I don't get near the milage others claim... 13.5 since I bought it. WTF? About 25K trouble free miles - LT, long bed, ext. cab.

Friend of mine just sold his 02 model - 155,000 trouble free miles (except the three time he or his girlfriend filled it with gas). His was a two wheel drive and he got 17 mpg on the highway (@ 80 mph). He just bought a new 07 Duramax Classic.

I think some of the mileage discrepancies may have to do with the newer models having the 6 speed tranny. With stock tires, at 75 mph, I'm only turning around 1600 rpm. I calculate my mileage on paper and get right at 20 mpg while empty at 75 mph. Go up to 80 mph and it is closer to 15 mpg.

2004 4x4 X-cab with 100,000 trouble free miles. Only problem I had was when I waited too long to replace the fuel filter. Found out while towing a boat form NC to CT in the middle of the trip. I get on average 20 mpg on the interstate running 75-85mph. I run one tire size larger than stock. Running around town, I get around 13-18 mpg. If I put a traile ron, I automatically get 13mpg, an extra heavy trailer 8-10mpg. I love it and wouldn't trade it, except for a D-Max crew cab or D-Max Suburban.

'03 4x4 with 78k miles. No issues. Changed to the synthetic tranny fluid 2 changes ago just 'cuz. I tow alot and a long ways between boats, tractors, and travel trailers. If you tow alot, cut the recommended tranny fluid/filter change in 1/2 just for safe measure. I've let it go once to full mileage and there was a noticeable need to change. It's a great engine/tranny combo with lots of great towing positives.
