Default Cat gone wild ....... I need to stop this murderer, the bodies are piling up.

We have a neighborhood cat that was mistakenly fed by my children and wife. The cat has now become a permanent resident of our yard. I stopped the feeding but the unintended consequences are becoming a nuisance. Apparently this cute little monster has decided to bring to a daily sacrifice to our backdoor (birds, chipmunks, etc.). Entrails, feathers, decapitated heads are deposited by this cat everyday......heck, I just caught the bugger with a freshly killed birdie. Does anyone have a method, short of killing the cat, I could use to eliminate this bloodbath?

On a positive note, seeing the daily kill and blood splatter does remind me of a boat cockpit when we are hauling in fish.

Ugh!

In case you don't realise it, you now belong to that cat!

He thinks you are to stupid to feed yourself.

Short of harming him, I don't know how to discourage him, maybe show him that shirt you done away with a few months back.

I have a tuxedo tom cat that is a exterminator of snakes, birds, squirrels, frog, baby rabbits, mice and rats. Brings'em up to the back door, he will try to sneak them into the house. Never have figured out how to stop him. He is close to 13 years old and has been diagnosed with cat cancer which has caused most of his teeth to fall out. But he still has enough to get a hold of a rat.

Put a severed horse head in his little kitty bed while he sleeps. He will get the hint that you are not playing around.

Put a little bell on his collar, that will make it a lot harder for him to sneak up and kill the things in the first place.

The cat is bringing you presents of gratitude - no joke!
I understand that you're tired of the body count and gore, but believe it or not the cat recognizes what you have done for him/her and is "rewarding" you in the only way it is able.

I do not know what the solution is; you're dealing with cat instinct here. Feed it more? Adopt it?
(on edit: posted at the same time as Classic - the bell is a good suggestion)

I'll come get him. My Jack Russells love cats.

I don't know about your SPCA, but ours will loan us a live trap for catching pesky critters......they'll loan us the cage providing we bring them the catch.

That squirrel launching video is just not right!

You can try fox urine, the smell of fear will usually keep a cat away. You can get it in granules or you can trap a fox, give it lots of water, and squeeze him all around your perimeter.

The bell is a real good idea.

My idea, the "catapult", and sqeezing a fox will probably get you a court date.

The bell will keep him from catching stuff, so he'll die if you don't feed him.

Back to square one.

Iknow what you are going through Dave. We have an outside cat(only way to have one really). He always is leaving gifts at our front door. So selective are his eating habits too. Sometimes he will rip a head off the mouse and leave the rest of it...........then he will leave the head on the next one and eat some of theguts.............then like this morning...........it looked like the Texas fricken chainsaw masacare mouse, that mouse must have fought back! I had to scrape that one up with a shovel.

Anyway you look at it........its better then having the mice in the house .....(and the only reason our cat Physcois still alive )

Y'all have validated my assumption....our garage is going to look like Cambodia's killing fields until some other family makes a mistake and feeds the cat. On second thought, maybe I can start feeding the cat at a neighbors house......hummmm, that should do it, assuming my neighbor doesn't catch me doing it.

The fox idea is ok except we have a domestic cat.....I don't want to track that stuff in and have her shaking and pissing all over the house. The bell thing, while effective for my selfish goal, would work but kill the cat. No on the dog........like I said, we have a cat and that is one too many pets as far as I am concerned. Maybe a our week long trip to the beach in July will cause her to take up residence somewhere else.

Dave

If you can catch the cat in the act a squirt gun does wonders. We have 3 cats and the youngest brings us offering on occasion. This is the first time I've ever had a cat door and we have had all these wonders brought into the house. Nothing like a live bird flying through the house at 7am on a Saturday morning with a cat chasing it over the furniture.
