Default Vehicle AC advice

When I turn my AC on the air smells stale. Maybe moldy at anyrate it is not that plesant and seems to be getting worse. After about a minute it goes away and you don't smell it again until you turn the AC off for a few minutes then back on again. It also smells when I use the defrost or floor vents so it is not just the AC. Is this a problem I can solve, or do I need to take it to the dealership to be checked out? Thanks.

Just before I ran my Tahoe back up to NJ the Quick Lube place showed me some air filters I didn't know I had, 'cabin' air filters. They were dirty enough for me to let them change them (and I am cheap). Dunno if you have the same ones, but I would check to find out.

I would get it checked out. Threre may be a prob with the recirculating door. If it's not closing all the way it may be creating condensation in the inside and making mold.

02' Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have a cabin air filter. (at least that's what the Jeep parts department just told me)

1. Check your cowl area (plastic grill right under the windshield), clean out leaves, dirt etc.

2. Use AC-CLEAN Part No. ACC/27 (made by JB) It kills mold. Follow instructions on can.

3. Make certain your evaporator case is draining well. If not a blast of compressed air up the drain tube will clean it out.

When you use the defrost or switch to floor vents...it's still the same air moving through your evaporator case.

Ludicrous is right on the money, make sure the evaporater case is draining, clean cowl area, sometimes spraying lysol into cowl area with ac on fan onit will kill the mold and help with the smell. first you have
to make sure evaporator case is draining. A bad heater core would smell kind of sweet and like a fog coming out of your vents

what you have is a mold issue in your air ducts......
the best way to avoid it is to run "non cooled(outside) air" thrue the system for about a minute or so before you turn the system off

when you shut the sustem off with cold air in it, condensation sometimes will form in the ducts, its a simple "fix" really, just run outside air for a minute or so...this will evaporate any condensation before it has a chance to breed any mold
