I hate Walmart
I would rather pay more for something in a better atmosphere. To make matters worse, My in-laws moved from Brooklyn to Fl about 2 years after the Mrs and I moved down from Long Island. They both ended up working for Walmart. Unfortunately my mother law is in her 5th year of fighting Cancer so she does not work anymore.

My Father in law on the other hand.......
I don't like the guy - never have well that is a little strong, lets just say that if her were not my father in law I would not be associating with him.

Well anyway -after never holding down a job for more than 2 years in his life, he has found a home at walmart. every waking moment of every day if he is not at work, all he does is talk about work. He has been brainwashed. he talks about the place as if it is a religion. It is the focal point of his very existence . He has worked in all departments. He has worked overnight in the grocery dept. He has been the manager of the photo kiosk, then decided he wanted to get out of "management" - it was too much pressure. He has certiifcates that he passed Walmart safe food handling classes pasted on his refrigerator like my 5 y/o has his fingerpaintings. He is the authority on everything. When I bought a new TV, he came over and grilled me for hours on what I paid, that I over paid, why didn't I use his employee discount. How they had a model on sale that blows mine away. I asked why - he had bullshit answers that were brainwashed into his practically empty head. I asked if it had certain features, - he just looked me as if i had 2 heads, - finally he got mad at me and walked away. Thank God.

I was actually shopping with him once there - the first and only time I ever will - it was after my wifes grandmother passeed and we were expecting a lot of company and he needed things for the house. On of the things that we bought was a large plastic trash can. after waiting on line for about 20 minutes at the cashier - we were rung up and headed for the door - or so I thought. he pulls the cashier aside and asks for the cashier manager. he makes a point of showing hiw "wal-mart id" - sort of like it was an FBI badge, and he points out that he is a department manager . Points out, taking his time - the line behind us growing and growing. That the cashier made the mistake of not opening the trash can to see if anything was inside of it. I am saying - lets go and I almost left him there. I don't think I was ever so embarrassed, and annoyed at one time in my life.

OK - he was right about looking inside the trash can. But he could have politely pulled the 17 y/o girl aside and explained it . He did not have to turn it into a 20 minute ordeal involving the girl's boss - reducing her to tears and involving her manager. But he is just a cruel bastard that enjoys excercising power in those few instances in his pathetic life. it is the same typeof father he was (and is) and wonders why his daughters can't stand him

HE IS MR. WALMART! coming to a comic book stand near you soon.

Oh - how I hat that place.

I'm with you man.
As an banker I've seen first hand what happens when Walmart move's to town.
My last trip in a Walmart was 10 yrs ago. I simply will not do it.
Being involved in county politics I have seen first hand what this company is about.
With that said. they have the right to build them and the consumer has the right to spend their money where they like.
I chose not.

Getting back to the original post... You arrive at 5:30am and spend 30+ minutes of your time asking for store managers because you don't want to show your store receipt? And it would take all of what, 32 seconds to show the lady at the door your receipt? Am I missing something here? Didn't they first print the receipt out from their cash registers and now all they want to do is take quick look at it again? It's not like they want to see proof of your citizenship of anything...

I don't care for Walmart either and avoid it at all costs but sometimes I must go to pick up fishing gear or oil. Here is my advice: Park around the side where the automotive bays are and use the side door. You will be in and out in 2 minutes and you can pay for your items in sporting goods or at the automotive desk.

Hey that's not entirely true - I have eaten at both the Burger King and McDonalds at the big intersection of 27 in Southhampton. You've got BK on one side north) Mc Donalds on the other side. Then there is the HUGE Mobil mini-mart and then just a little further East a 7-11. By the way that 7-11 must be the franchise record holder for beer and ice. That place on a Friday Night about 10:00 PM - you can't find a parking spot empty cases and 12 packs from beer, empy ice bags and bits and pieces of broken styrofoam coolers fill the parking lot. It is mayhem. Inside they have 4 registers going - 12 deep at each register.

Oh I'm sorry, back to the original thread.

I hate Walmart, and the checking of the receipt was stupid and foolish when the woman is 25 feet from you when you are checking out at the register.

But in reality. The poor old woman is just trying to supplement her social security income that leaves her a choice of whether to eat or buy her medications, If it is in S. FL. she is probably still reeling from the fact that the condo she bought before her husband died and left her what was once considered a sizable amount and now amounts to just about nothing the monthly maintenance has gone from 100 per month to 500 / month in just 2 years due to the hurricane losses and all the fraud that goes on - that we all pay for, probably is working for the first time in her life and has to worry about A-hole managers like my father in law (see previous post) yelling and berating her that she will be fired just because he is ona mission to fulfill his mean sadistic twisted power trip and gets his jollies out of making her wet her depends, is just trying to keep her $6/hour job that she desperately needs.

Show her the receipt, smile, say have a nice day, thank her (you will make her day) and move on. Or just simply don't go there - ever, even if it is convenient on the way to the boat. Shop the night before.

I am not a Wal-Mart fan, or a Home Depot/Lowes fan, or CVS/Eckert Drugs fan for that matter. I liked the neighborhood pharmacy, the hardware store, and the dozen stores that get shut down wherever Wal-Mart opens their doors..... But hey, that's progress! I go, get what I need, and leave with as little ag as possible.

Talk about stuff from Sam's Club a Wally world derivative I was there the other day, and bought some wine, I had to dig out my drivers license to show the check out girl Now I'm in my late 60"s gray hair etc. I almost told the girl to set it aside but wife said buy it. Now someone had sold some alcohol to some underage person, so the overreaction of the under educated or socially promoted store management said every ones who buys alcohol must show an Id. Now my girl just pretended to look at it but I still had go dig it out of my wallet not a great deal but but.

We don't have a fast food restaurant in our entire county nor a major chain store...except for the Subway at the "Buoy" gas station and a Food Lion. We just got our first stoplight in the county a couple of years ago and now we have 2 stoplights in the county.

Walmart's no different than any other large store or business.
Progress will always has a big cost to the old ways, but it will be the customers who have the final say as to whether any business, new or old, thrives, survives or simply fails.

Whiteowl - 6/11/2007 9:13 AM

Sunday morning, 5:30am, two cashiers with no one checking out. Cashiers are 35 feet from the door. I check out with four bags of ice and stuff to make a sandwich or two. The door greeter watches me check out and when I get to the door she want to check my receipt. I ask why and she say she has to check because I have things that are not bagged. (ice?) I don't like WalMart anyway so this really pokes me. I tell her to get the manager, get madder while I wait so I just ask for my money back. Can't do that without a manager. Finally get someone, tell her the problem she tells me I have to show receipt. I just ask for a refund. Manager make a big show of checking off each item from the receipt and pretty much behaves in a manner that I would expect from WalMart. By this time it is after 6:00 so I go down the street to Lowes Foods. (phone call to rest of crew shows that I am still ahead of them) I did indeed pay about a buck more but I was treated well in a very nice store. Am I missing something here? Is it understandable why I should have to be checked at the door. I have seen people checked but this was the first time I have ever been asked to allow inspection. WalMart is the only retailer I have ever seen do this. Not Target, or even Sears/Kmart.
Its f ing 5:30 in the morning. WTF do you expect?

You are real hard up aren't ya......
